to whoring myself
BTW, Free shipping and insurance for winning board members INCONUS.

Good point, it does look like a possible shilled auction. Of course, as long as eBay makes more jack off it, why do they give a crap? They don't, of course, and as someone who buys far more than sells, I wish they'd do something about the obvious shilling.

And here I though this book would go for only $150. Apparently I don't even know what to price it at if the book unslabbed made the $400 mark. Looks like X-O HoboJoe has just gotten an early Christmas present in the form of cash.

Thanks Bro. J
Zeph, you're right about the "storm surge" created by (in my opinion) the RRP phenom (Batman 608 being the mac-daddy) and it does remind me of how people were paying several hundred dollars for Harby pink, Superman 75 platinum and Spider-Man 1 Platinum. Not that I discourage any HUGE bids on these auctions but I remember well the early 90's. Course that means whoever gets the Nabisco 9.8 Wolverine will turn around, put a BIN twice what they paid and get it.
When these auctions are over, I'll post the details of the propositions I've gotten to pull these books and sell off the Bay.

I wouldn't say that the other 1000.00 bidder was a shill. He has bid on 3 of those books in the past few months and won this one.ckb wrote:Looks shilled to me. Two bidders over $1000, 15 under $400.
And the copy looks less than perfect.

That 9.6 looks MUCH nicer than the raw copy that has an obvious spine crease, 4 worn corners, and a crease on the bottom back page. Wonder how it got in that condition if it came "from an original factory case"?x-omatic wrote:I wouldn't say that the other 1000.00 bidder was a shill. He hit the BIN at $1K on that one. These look like faked auctions to give a false sense of demand/price for the book. I can guarantee it. This is not a $1K book, just someone trying to manipulate the public.

Well its already surpased my guess with a few more days to go. $400-500 sounds like good lewt in the bank to me.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Obviously, I'm interested to see what this'll pull; I believe it will go for at least $500, (but I could easily be wrong).
If there is a group shilling these, this auction should draw out the truth, one way or another.

Ok, I've got brother J so far, if you're a board member and won one (or more) of my auctions and I can't tell by your eBay ID, email me so I know not to charge you for shipping costs.
Again, for those who bid, thank you, for those who won, Enjoy your comics, I've got more up if you're interested.

HoboJoe, are you happy with the final prices you got? Because, wow, those are some goods deals to the winners for the CGC9.8 Valiant Golds. If I thought they were going to go for that low I would have put in some 'winning' bids myself.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Ok, I've got brother J so far, if you're a board member and won one (or more) of my auctions and I can't tell by your eBay ID, email me so I know not to charge you for shipping costs.

But the basement bargains are not exclusive to your auctions, I missed out another CGC 9.8 Ninjak #1 gold go for about $36 and Chaos Gold 9.8 go for under $50.

Do you think this trend will last? I'm really not going after Valiant 9.8s per say but those are some deals. I'd be hardpressed to ignore those.400yrs wrote:Yeah, I can't believe I got them at those prices!!lobo wrote:But the basement bargains are not exclusive to your auctions, I missed out another CGC 9.8 Ninjak #1 gold go for about $36 and Chaos Gold 9.8 go for under $50.X-O HoboJoe wrote:

I've had those particular issues for a while, having only recently sent them off to CGC. If they're going to other collectors then I'm satisfied, my other auctions went pretty well, so I've really no room to complain about anyone getting a bargain. I figure most of the gold and platinum copies of any type were printed and cared for better than the average pre-Unity Valiant, so seeing high grades for them is perhaps not as rare as a 9.8 Solar or Harbinger #1.

I agree that the variants were probably taken better care of and therefore are probably more common in high grades. Then again, I also know that many of those books are either in personal collections or getting slammed and dinged around in quarter bins.X-O HoboJoe wrote:I've had those particular issues for a while, having only recently sent them off to CGC. I rarely buy any books CGC'd because I don't always think they grade objectively. However, with these 9.8 variants going so low, it is tough to pass them up. For just a few bucks more, you get the CGC certification. I am going to have to watch the trends and adjust my bidding habits accordingly. No reason to over-pay when there are obviously deals out there.
