HC release list?

Post by TKWill »

On this page the screen is as follows

I - Harbinger
II - X-O
III - Shadowman
IV - Rai
V - Ninjak

The first two are the order for the HC releases. Will their be other HC's in that order. Seems oddly coincidental that those first two are in that particular order. Any thoughts?

I don't know, but that is how I interpreted it.

Very interesting premise, we were just talking about that in chat...

Not a bad idea, although I would have thought that A&A or EW would have gotten marketable preferance over Ninjak though...

This is all just speculation anyway, but how about Quesada? Are there people who might want his early work, thus making Ninjak more marketable?

I suppose that is possible. I know I've also heard others (outside our fan base that is) talk about how they liked Ninjak 'back in the day' even though those same people couldn't name a single other Valiant comic.

Maybe he's got a larger market share than a lot of us thought? Ninjas tend to do that to people y'know...

Ninjak was decent but if there was a choice I'd go with Eternal Warrior anyday. Gilad was a much more interesting character.

It's a nice, varied line-up. I'm surprised (pleasantly) to see Rai and future Valiant getting some love over a more 'mainstream' character like Bloodshot (no offence BoH :P )

Hey, I can be patient. And Rai's in my top 5 titles lists.

They'll make their Rai feautre film and then the Bloodshot "prequel" franchise will take off even more!

BoH

Jeez--is it gonna be hard to focus at work today.... :!:

I think that Ninjak is a bad Idea. I hope that Shadowman is next followed by Rai tho :thumb:

If they are smart they'll make Ninjak the last HC with a low print-run.

I wonder what VEI plans to do with Rai since they don't have the rights to use Magnus and Rai died during Unity. They literally don't have a strong platform to build if they want to publish any stories in the Valiant's future timeline in 4000 AD.

They might not have wanted to do an A&A or EW hardcover to start, since the first few issues involved Unity. The other comics can reprint the first few issues without getting into Unity. (Although Shadowman and Rai are close)

Very cool. They might not want to do the Unity books because they don't hold the rights to the Gold Key characters. Do any of those characters appear in the Harbinger HC or X-O #0-6?

This morning I was checking out the VE.com site and my girlfriend came over to see what I was looking at. I showed her this release order, and when it got to Ninjak she said, "Oooh, I like him!"

Maybe Ninjak just has that magnetic popular appeal.

They don't hold the rights, but they can reprint existing materials.

I guess we'll find out in a few months, but how well do the Unity stories flow taken apart? X-O's Unity story falls somewhere in the 0-6 doesn't it? Or is it #7 & 8...? Either way, assuming you are a reader and you read any of the HC's with the two Unity chapters in it for the first time, would it make sense with the flow of the story? I've never really tried it, so I don't know.

The X-O Unity chapters are issues 7 and 8. I'm not sure they would flow that well independant of Unity.

At the very least, it isn't shown how they get back until Unity 1, so without that, the story would be really disjointed.

Some would flow OK, like Shadowman, some are more tied with the others.

I kinda hope that the Shadowman hardcover they are hinting at is issues 1-3, and 6-8. They don't necessarily have to include Unity.

From the shot they have of Shadowman on the main page, and the fact that Bob Hall has already worked for VEI, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hardcover starting with 8 or 10. The Bob Hall Shadowman is really quite a bit different than the early stories, and went on to become the definitive version of the character.

edit: P.S. - Shadowman 10-12 is the best SM story imo CLASSIC

I would have to agree about the Hall run. I think I've mentioned it before, but I did not like Shadowman for the first few issues. In fact, it wasn't until # 6 that I really and fully enjoyed a book. Hall just had a handle on the character that was almost as if he'd created him, and in a way, he did.
