Since 'unread' *really* means 'unopened'.....anyone notice anything wrong with this auction?
the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me... :|

Good lord, look at the shipping! $8.85 for ONE SINGLE COMIC. I bet you ANYTHING the guy won't combine shipping.

STAY AWAY if you don't wish to throw your money down the drain....actually, I think throwing it down the drain would be better. ;)

I wonder if this guy knows that Hard CORPS #1 gold sell for about $3 total?

How embarrasing.

Look what else he's charging for overnight....$22.85. Actual cost to ship? $13.85. He's charging a NINE DOLLAR HANDLING FEE just to put the book in an envelope and filling out the form.

God, someone show me the suckers who PAY this nonsense! I want to make all my money on S&H!!!

God, what a flaming idiot. Please...someone tell him to stop selling comics....or at least Valiants.

A STEAL at TWICE the price!

So wrong, in so many ways.

And only $5 to ship! A STEAL!

Will someone please inform ALL eBay sellers that the use of the words 'rare', 'scarce' and 'hard to find' will no longer be allowed in descriptions for items that appear multiple times a day, every day, on eBay?

This is at least the second time the shipping calculator has caused a discussion on these boards. It should not be taken seriously.

How can it not be taken seriously, especially when a seller does not list any other information on the page? What other information do you have to go on? You could be dealing with someone like StckWizard AKA CGC*Comics, who tries to charge you $2+ PER COMIC to ship! At some point, the seller HAD to decide what prices would go in there.....

Can you just SMELL the desperation...? ;)

I don't suppose Fred will ever learn that 'if something doesn't sell, you LOWER the price'....ya think?

If you had a problem with shipping you should have e-mailed me instead of embarrising me in a public forum. I am a fellow Valiant collector and lover just like you. I thought we were all brothers & sisters in this, who stick up for eachother and not try to stick it to them

Uh, that's the purpose FOR this forum, to embarass sellers who decide to do things we feel are shameful, like charge $8.85 for shipping one comic or starting the bidding of a comic that's worthless at $100. The idea is to expose these sellers to other Valiant collectors while also getting a laugh out of some of things these people will do for money
I am a fellow Valiant collector and lover just like you. I thought we were all brothers & sisters in this, who stick up for eachother and not try to stick it to them
I don't consider myself a brother or sister to anyone who engages in shady practices on eBay, whatever they collect. If the shipping calculation was indeed a mistake, your duty as a seller is to fix it as soon as possible. You can go back and revise your listing. Instead of whining that someone pointed out your mistake, how about going back and fixing it and then coming back here and explaining it was indeed a mistake? Makes more sense to me! :sumo:

I don't know if this has already been cleared up...
but the "postage calculator" attached to your (jedimarley) auctions
is creating some very large estimates for shipping costs.
(Try zip codes around the country like: 01040, 72209, 90036)

In most cases, the lack of a specified shipping cost combined
with the "crazy calculator" indicates that a seller is making his profits
by overcharging for shipping. Obviously, it would be a "sneaky trick"
to make someone pay $10 for shipping a single comic book domestically...
but it's "legal" on Ebay because the calculator estimate is
available whenever anyone bids.

In your case, it appears that the calculator may simply be
miscalculating the appropriate shipping charges, and that you are
NOT one of the shipping scoundrels becoming more common on Ebay.

Personally, I'm happy to hear that you won't be overcharging for shipping,
because you have a few auctions that look interesting. :)

However, you mentioned here that it shouldn't be more than $1 for shipping,
which sounds like the books won't be protected very well...
They need to be well-packaged, secured, and shipped in a sturdy box,
which can't possibly happen for just $1.
(Mint books don't stay that way in an envelope.)

:D

I think most guys here would agree that a comic book purchase is best
when the comic is well-protected, can't be damaged by shaking,
and is "crush-proof" inside of a sturdy box.

Since Priority Mail provides the box, and shipping is $3.85 under 1 pound,
buyers are usually happy to pay around $4 for shipping because they like this plan.
(Sure, we'll throw in the extra $0.15 for a nice bag & board.) :)

Charging $4 for shipping, but using media mail or an envelope is misleading...
Charging $8.85 when shipping is possible for $3.85 is just gouging...
...and charging $1 for $3.85 shipping would be a rip-off... against yourself!

Your 100% feedback and willingness to discuss the $8.85 calculator
is a credit to yourself. There are 33 pages (so far) of "other guys"
in this topic that just don't get it. Maybe they figured it out later.
Maybe they just don't care. Glad that you're here to clarify,
because it looks like you've got some nice Valiant items there.

Ok, fair enough, fair enough....but what ARE you ACTUALLY charging for shipping?

A fair amount is $4-$5 for Priority Mail. The flat rate envelope for Priority is $3.85 anywhere in the US, AND...with sufficient cardboard protection, the book is well protected. In six years, I've never had a book damaged this way (because I *protect those corners*)

If you CAN ship Media Mail, a fair price is $3-$4, and using a used box works well. Used boxes can be found anywhere, BUT...NEW boxes cost $1 or less if you go to Payless, Walmart, or somesuch place.

Don't go to Mailboxes Etc. as they overcharge.

THAT said...welcome to the boards. ;)

And realize...all this publicity is a GOOD thing, if you truly DON'T overcharge for shipping. Your auctions will get a lot more exposure now. ;)
