Ones in good condition range from between 75-650K at auction. I don't even want to begin to imagine spending that sort of bank on a single book, even Action # 1.

A coverless Amazing Spider-Man 1 (or was it Amazing Fantasy 15?) cleared $300. So probably much more than anyone sane would consider.

No, I am not buying a coverless Superman...or Spider-Man...or coverless anything. :)

And while I find the discussion of the value of coverless books and cover fragments interesting, it would fit better in a separate thread. "Are you kids buying those comics? If not, then move along." How many of us heard that a few times in our lifetimes

I see that 0316gb has added a Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8 to his registry set! I guess the $2550 price flushed another one out of hidding. Only to be stashed away by another collector forever and ever.

I sent him a message asking where and how much he got it for, lets see if he replies!

Did 0316gb not have one before? This was a private sale, then?

When I added my one, I went third in the registry, he added his yesterday and now I'm fourth! Must have been a private deal, possibly an email to him via Ebay from another seller. He was the 2nd highest bidder, or a buddy who caved in and went for the money.

Ahhhhhhhh....that makes perfect sense!

I'm not part of the registry....how does it work? Do you have to delist the books you sell immediately, or does it wait until the new owner lists them? If there's a conflict of ownership, how is it resolved?

If there is a conflict of ownership you are informed of this as you try to update your new slab, a mediator from the registry site emails the owner and informs them of the attempted change and gives the original owner the option to agree to the change or not. Quite simple and hassle free.

0316gb replied, he was contacted by Akadeapool after the Ebay auction who offered him his copy for $2500 shipped with insurance. 0316gb said he snapped it up as he didn't think another one would come round again for a while. :hm:

So with that info, it kind of bumps up the average 9.8 price a bit, though it is still a blip as 0316gb is aother, "Got to have it at any cost" collector of Pre-unity slabs.

I'm not derailing your thread Steve just giving your offer more exposure. :thumb:

The fact that someone was willing to pay $2500 as well does two things:

1. It established the $2500 threshhold as legitimate, as the first sale wasn't a fluke.

2. It removes the two bidders likely to bid up "the next one", leaving it exposed to a much, MUCH lower selling price.

Competing concepts, I know.

Interesting... the second sale for $2,500 removed the requirement for an "underbidder",
which would have had to be a third person willing to bid up to $2,500.

That third person (from the original auction) only bid up to $1,500...
so it would have been conceivable that the next sale would have been
closer to $1,500 than $2,500.

But that's not what happened. $2,500 followed the $2,550 sale.

Now, we're looking at what might be the next sale...
should we still expect $1,500 if it was a regular eBay auction?
More? Less?

What say ye? :hm:

Unless a copy comes up for sale in the next, oh, 6 months....how can we say for sure?

But....the $2500 sale was a private treaty transaction, not an auction.

Would it have sold for $2500 on eBay? With a BIN of $2500?

Maybe. But then, there would have been eBay fees and whatnot to contend with.

:hm:

Is AKADeadpool a dealer with his own website? I e-mailed GPA and asked how private sales could be included in the data, and they said only if I was a dealer with an established website. I tried to say VF.com was an established website, and it was sold through there, but they didn't buy it.

So, if AKADeadpool IS a dealer, that second sale will be recorded on GPA...and what might THAT do...?

Looking at Akadeadpool's profile on Ebay I'd say he is not a dealer with a web site as there is no link or info in his auction pertaining to this. I could be wrong though.

I think that if another copy came up on Ebay many watchers and possible buyers would only know about the original $2550 purchase and not the private deal. Therefore the potential of a $2500 trend developing would look doubtful in my opinion until another one went up for auction or a BIN and sold.

How many other people out there are looking for a copy at that price, I still think another $2550 sale would be hard to achieve because it's just so much money for a 1990's comic unless you really really need it.

Interesting development though.

Ones in good condition range from between 75-650K at auction. I don't even want to begin to imagine spending that sort of bank on a single book, even Action # 1.
If I am not mistaken, this copy sold for $22,500
