Oh, the book was the regular size Shadowman Special Edition 1. Over half off guide price, I think I did pretty well. :thumb:

There was a mini-con in KC this weekend. I got:

Magnus 1 - 17 with coupons for $30
Batman 426 - 429 for $15 (these are in GREAT shape...maybe off to CGC)
Harbinger: The Beginning for $12.50
Several "normal" pre-Unity issues for either $1 or $0.50 each

There was more than that, but that's all I can remember right now. I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few dealers talking about Valiant too. In fact, I know one guy sold quite a few before I ever made it to his table. He said he had a Harby 1 that was already gone...all he had were $1 boxes and his stuff was in really nice shape :!: . I should've been quicker.

I've gotten the shaft up the assus a few times lately but this just arrived today:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=011

Very nice condition for all but the big three especially range from F-VF. Very pleased with this lot.

Not Valiant, but bragging rights...

CGC 9.8 Simpsons Comics And Stories #1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0070646640

First comic book appearance of the Simpsons (before the Bongo line was created).

There are only 5 at this grade, but 22 copies at CGC 9.0 or below... with 6 in CGC 7.0.

I'd say it's safe to say that some moderns aren't very easy to find in NM. :thumb:

I have two newsstand copies of that book that are completely unread. I bought them both new. I have never even thought of slabbing them, but I am definitely checking them out tonight... :thumb:

I had two that I never touched... kept them in their polybags and bagged and boarded on top of that.

When I submitted them, I got a 9.4 and a 9.0. :?

Yeah, neither of mine may be worth submitting, but I have never looked at them with that kind of critical eye. Newsstand copies are notoriously bad for getting beat around before they are bought. I just know that I bought them new, and I have never read that story...so I've got a chance.

Did the newsstand versions come in the polybags?

You might have a chance if they weren't polybagged...
those bags cause automatic damage from deterioration.

The high grade (9.4+) CGC census numbers for polybagged books like Spiderman #1,
Superman #75, and X-Force #1 are ridiculously low, even though those books
are super common.

Who knew we were supposed to unbag them immediately in order to preserve them? :?

No polybag or poster on the Newsstand version of this book. I don't know what that does to the value...I better look at GPA before getting too excited.

GPA shows nothing that would imply it treats the two versions differently.

CGC Census shows nothing to distinguish either.

Interesting... looking for more info, it looks like the non-bagged version is also a $2.50 cover price.
(The bagged version at $2.95) :hm:

That is one of the books in the Ras Al Ghul Batman spec. Edition.

I know a place that has one of them for $10, not sure on the condition or what it is worth...... but I always think of getting it..... but I have not yet.

Great book. You can't go wrong for $2. You need #s 244 and 245 now. It is a 3 part story that is very solid. Adams art and O'Neil scripts :cloud9:

Careful...Adams Bat books are addictive :D
