I do not buy wizard---I think it is all hype and old news when it hits the stands. The internet sites such as newsarama.com, comicbokresources, and bleedingcool.com are the only relavant news sites now.400yrs wrote:I'm surprised that people here are happy with them hiring a Wizard guy considering that most around here hate Wizard.
Although I'm ok with Wizard (used to read it occassionally), I feel like catering to the Wizard crowd is why the *Acclaim (1997 series)* stuff wasn't good. Hopefully this guy doesn't bring this philosophy with him.
But it has lasted 20 years of the storm, so, its good news that they hired someone who has experience keeping a company alive.

I believe he was Chief Financial Officer for Valiant... so the scripting on the booksdellamorte wrote:He was credited on 3 Valiant comis. Two of them scripting with another writer (Shooter on Magnus 10 and Layton on the Harbinger Files 1) and one scripting over Shooters plot (Magnus 20).

is more of a "curiosity"... and provides a good timeframe for his being at Valiant... 1992-1994.

Re: Fred Pierce Joins Valiant Entertainment
If a company just having employees led to announcements of projects we would have had some a while back. If Fred could convince them to back off the lawsuit so we could atleast get some Valiant-related comics from someone, that would be nice.TheVisitor wrote:Fom today's Scoop -

It's interesting they replaced Walter at this time, though I doubt we'll ever know why.
Also interesting this ended up as a "Scoop" when Shooter's work for them remained secret. Intentional leakage, perhaps?

So Walter's gone then? I was unclear.

Yeah, some clarification on this would be nice, but of course we won't get it.Todd Luck wrote:They'd have two publishers?400yrs wrote:I think it's a separate position..... not Walter's..... but I don't know. If it is, that's a very impressive turnover rate that VEI is sporting.
I'm just thinking my own paper, if we had more than publisher my editor would go insane. LOL
It looks like VEI is the place to go if you want to get a paycheck for a few months and then be dismissed or try and run away from a bad place and face a suit.
2 publishers doesn't make sense. Hope Walter didn't get screwed.

Anybody able to clarify who the current publisher is/will be, and the status of various presidents of VEI?
I don't know enough of Fred Pierce's work to comment - I have only read 3 or 4 issues of Wizard in my life.
What i do find intriguing is that VEI seem to be searching for momentum suddenly. Has Pierce been out of work since December? If Shooter went in July, then why now? After the lawsuit?
To be honest my gut feeling (purely opinion, not based on anything but circumstantial evidence and conjecture) is that the business plan I believe VEI were trying to follow went south; they then tried to recover from that business plan (hence the Jim Shooter hiring), whilst still keeping an eye on the same original business plan; and now they realise that publishing comics is what fans have wanted all along, hence gradual openness about moves in that direction after a long period of seeming inertia.
If it means new comic books then that is great, even if I think that VEI could have had good quality work in the form of new comic books out much sooner.

My feeling is Fred has been working in some form with VEI and this was finally let out...
WHY the "Shooter" being VEI EIC didn't leak out by "someone" is still pretty shocking to me. Things are said by people inadvertently all the time on purpose and in accident, I'm really impressed that is wasn't even hinted at by ANY website.
That's just the way things go in the business.
I like the hire.

Re: Fred Pierce Joins Valiant Entertainment
No press release about this on the VEI site, despite that it is apparently public knowledge? I would hope that they (VEI) are not so guarded that they won't even announce stuff like this, unless the hiring isn't yet confirmed?TheVisitor wrote:Fom today's Scoop -
Former Wizard top gun Fred Pierce has joined Valiant Entertainment, LLC as the company's new President and Publisher. He was, of course, with the original VALIANT before moving to Wizard.
It seems reasonable to expect an announcement of some projects in the near future.
Congratulations, Fred!

Could they have more issues to address like keeping their main portal of information more up to date?
Any clearer answers on the role of Walter Black now that their is a new (apparent) publisher?

Re: Fred Pierce Joins Valiant Entertainment
I think only those on the inside could answer that. Given the range of tasks to be assigned to an (unpaid?) intern, I guess the operation is pretty small. If they had an EiC but no other creators (did they/do they have any conceptual artists for example?), then it seems as though the operation is very small.Jay Tomio wrote:Just a general question. Is there any idea (by those who could share), how big of an operation we are talking about with VEI?leonmallett wrote:No press release about this on the VEI site, despite that it is apparently public knowledge? Like, do they have a publicity *SQUEE*?
The likelihood is that whatever stock control is needed can be taken care of easliy due to dearth of product.
It looks to me as though there are several executive and senior managment posts (possibly three, maybe more), but very few - if any -people to actually manage. But that is pure speculation of course.

Re: Fred Pierce Joins Valiant Entertainment
Well, Fred handed me his business card and said I could break the news in Scoop, so that's more than confirmed enough for me. It wasn't a setting that lent itself to an extended Q&A, but given Fred's background I'm sure that some announcements will be forthcoming.leonmallett wrote:No press release about this on the VEI site, despite that it is apparently public knowledge? Likewise, I bet those announcements will take longer than some folks around here would like.

I would be one of those folks that is guilty as charged.Likewise, I bet those announcements will take longer than some folks around here would like.
I see it as a neccessity to try to see through the miasma of silence.
