If VEI exists as a means of holding some investment, I would argue (as I did in the Dead or Dying thread) that said investment is probably worth less now than it was on purchase. Now whwther that is relevant to anything is a whole other issue, but the point you make is an interesting one.400yrs wrote:Yep. That's interesting that the company's address is BVI.slym2none wrote:Tax breaks???

This is purely speculative, but that makes a whole lot of sense and would explain why the parents were willing to spend $1M on the properties that aren't doing anything.
Companies like to use the BVI, Dubai, etc to register companies to keep cash, expenses, equipment off of their local reporting set of books...... usually for tax reasons, sometimes for performance measurement reasons.....
I wonder if VEI is a subsidiary of a company..... or held as an investment.
If purely some kind of held asset, then we probably would not have seen Jim Shooter hired, or the associations with Bill Jemas etc. So presumably they (VEI) wanted to do something with the VALIANT properties; whether that 'something' was to genuinely produce regular comic books or something else (say a focus on other media licensing perhaps) is open to debate.
Still you have to think, that after this many years, if they (VEI) had both the will and the capital, then they could well have gone into regular comic book publication by now.

Dave Ryan raised over $5,000 via kickstarter. If you click on the video, I think that's X-O Manowar appearing at the 0:55 mark center-left.

War of the Independents actually looks like a pretty cool project. Very similar to Shi/Cyblade: Battle for Independents back in the 90s, which featured brief appearances every indi character you can think of doing battle with an evil force that's symbolic of the big publishers.

Of course this is done a much bigger scale. How do you get a copy of it?
As mentioned earlier in the thread X-O is no longer on the cover. here's the original:

Here's what it looks like now:

(Looked way better with X-O)
It's ashame. Woulda been great free publicity. Anyone know if VEI sent a "cease and desist"?

Then I would highly suggest they look the value of early issues of X-O compared to the early issues of Scud, Cerebus, Bone, Madman, ect.Chiclo wrote:I wonder if Steve Engelhart was the person that gave permission.wrunow wrote:According to Dinesh, they were not given permission to use XO.
Don't know much else about this though.
I am not saying he had the permission to give, just that he might have been the person they talked to.

I feel it is appropriate to point out that if one lets n equal all integers then the add/subtract operator can be simplified to either simple addition (or simple subtraction if you are feeling cute).
The statement is still true for n equal to all integers but it is just simpler without the +/- operator.
