Agreed, but it has helped her to become a much more rounded and individual character. Her interactions with the Question have been very entertaining.Knightt wrote:Yeah, that has no bearing on whether I would buy a comic book or not. Batwoman being a lez is about as relevant to a comic book as oh lets say, Batman being a member of the 'book of the month club'.
I don't think that Batwoman's sexuality or anything on that topic that could be expressed in a comic book could even remotely satisfy my interest beyond what I could find in a google search of 'women on women'.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reason anyone needs to buy this book is the fact that JH Williams III is doing the art, and it is freakin' amazing.Cyberstrike wrote:Batwoman as a lesbian is the ONLY reason why I was even I remotely tempeted to even considering buying the book.

This week seems to be the least interesting batch. I am looking forward to Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and interested in Batman, just to see how the book is (since it is a flagship DC title and character).400yrs wrote:What week 3 books are you all looking forward to?

I would talk about the new 52 more but we are planning on a podcast about it so I am saving it up for then.400yrs wrote:What week 3 books are you all looking forward to?
Me? Batman and I'm likely to check out Wonder Woman.
Demon Knights for the win.

Demon Knights would have been awesome if it felt like I had read a whole comic after I finished it, instead of just half of a comic.Chiclo wrote:Demon Knights for the win.

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
I don't know why I'm surprised, but I really wasn't prepared for the level of violence in these books. I mean...
The Joker's face sliced off? An infant sacrificed to a demon? Green Lanterns decapitated, bisected and impaled on-panel? A freakin' horse decapitated with a scythe?
And it's not just DC either as anyone who read the first 5 pages of Ultimate Comics X-Men #1 can tell you. That scene was entirely too depressing and made me wish I'd never opened the book. Dropped.
I'm not squeamish, or a prude but I just don't have any interest in seeing that amount of frankly disturbing violence in mainstream superhero comics. That's why we have Vertigo and MAX.
But on a positive note (depending on your attitude on this whole New 52 thing ) I actually made my first New 52 purchase today. I've been downloading torrents of the issues as they come out and have generally not regretted dropping all my DC books, but after reading Supergirl today I had to go out and buy it. Art was TREMENDOUS and I like the tone of the series as far as I can tell from the first issue. Adding this one to my pull list.

In an upcoming special episode of OTV, Sean will explore his feelings about the amount of story contained in the average comic book.sd2416 wrote:Isnt that all comics these days?

Yeah, that really is a Chiclo type of book.
Unfortunately, that's a book that people are either going to love or hate. With Game of Thrones succeeding, this book may have a shot. If this was released two years ago, it would've made it to issue 3 or 4 and been cancelled.

Awesome thread so far guys, lots of differing opinions on a hit of books
I have flicked through a small stack and only read a couple which were average at best.
I do have every book and had planned an afternoon where i can sit and read the first three issues of them all in a few months time.
I have heard more positive than negative though, so that's a breath of fresh air for sales and footfall into brick and mortar stores and i guess more traffic online too
However, sales and quality of the New DC 52 aside, what effect this had on everything else retail is of more interest to me now.
That question in mind and not to derail this thread, ill start a new one asking that quesion

Batman
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
*SQUEE*, this was awesome!! I'm sure some may complain about the art, but I thought it was perfect. Scott Snyder absolutely delivered on the story. This book was just AWESOME (and I usually think Batman is lame)!!!

Wonder Woman - Solid A-
I picked this up because I've heard it's going to have a touch of horror to it. This issue certainly had some violence. The art was very nice. I like the blocky look. The story is interesting enough to make me want to find out what is going to happen.
I'll re-read this later and decide if this is going on my pull.

DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or spec)
I didn't get a Batman :'( Looks like I'm going to have to wait for a 2nd print looking at the prices online.
I did get 3 issues this week:
Blue Beetle - Jaime Reyes appears to remain pretty untouched and the fleshing out of the scarab made for an entertaining enough 1st issue.
DC Universe Presents - Deadman - Beautiful art in this issue and a good introduction to the character. Seems they are going to be concentrating on the core concept of Deadman helping people in his afterlife. I like the way he is shown as morally ambiguous and learning the ways of the afterlife. There is an excellent sequence where Deadman jumps from body to body to talk to someone he knew in life, very well done and a good use of his powers. Very enjoyable 1st issue.
Nightwing - The art was strange and I felt the same about this as I did Batgirl. Is there really a place for Nightwing in the new DCU? He seems very 90s with the semi mullet returning and the art just didn't feel right. Not an awful issue but not what I had wanted.
Only wish I could have got a Batman!

This is one of the rare cases for me that I enjoy the art so much it doesn't matter what the story/plot/characterization is.
Inequalities are not absolute.

The only artist I would probably buy a book for his art alone regardless of the writer/publisher is John Cassaday (and he has too the interior art and not just a damn cover that I won't buy). I agree that JH Willaims III is a great artist but Cassaday is the best artist in the current generation.

SO underwhelmed by DC so far... but that is no surprise as I am not a DC fan (only like Batman, but not enough to like JLA or the JLI).
I am still hoping I get another company to really like but aahhh.... not so much.
I hope the DC fans out there are happy but I wonder... are they ? WHAT is making these books so special ? And will anything in these books becoming an enduring thing ?
