Vacation Comic Reading
So I'm going to be taking a 2-week vacation beginning Monday, 12/26. I'm planning on doing nothing but relaxing and getting some things settled around my house. I may get a wild hair to go somewhere not too far away, like Dallas, just to do something for a day or 2, but it's mostly gonna just be about taking it easy. One of the things I really want to do during my vacation is to spend a good deal of time reading/re-reading long creative runs all the way through. I'm planning on getting some suggestions and polling my ideas for both Big 2/Indies and a separate one for Valiant suggestions on runs that I own and haven't read yet.

Re: Vacation Comic Reading
I voted for Morrison's Batman run, mostly because that's the one I haven't read and would like to. I'd recommend Rasl, but it's only got a few issues to go, so you may want to wait and read the whole thing when it's done.

Re: Vacation Comic Reading
The closest that I have to any of those presently is the full Conan the Cimmerian DH series (missed the initial Conan run, but have a couple of trades), and I owned the first 3 trades of Fables, but I lost the first 2 at work. Guess someone snatched them when I wasn't looking.Elveen wrote:I've never read any of those so I'll vote:

Re: Vacation Comic Reading
I've been following Morrison's Batman since RIP month-to-month, and even backtracked to get the beginning portion up to RIP. I think that now that there's a lull in his Bat-work before he gears up for Leviathan, it would be really rewarding to read the whole thing in one go. This could also help me to test out my mapping for when I eventually get this bound.dbngaa wrote:I voted for Morrison's Batman run, mostly because that's the one I haven't read and would like to. Jersen, I just spotted your location. We drive by Malvern on our way to Texarkana to visit family a few times a year. Now I can wave and say I know of someone that lives there.

Without a doubt, 52.
So much to like, so much variety, yet still focused.
And really, really good.

I voted for DnA's LOSH. Great writing, awesome stories and cool characters. If you can, pick up the Legion Lost tpb that precedes the series. It's fantastic

I honestly don't know why everyone is so enamored with this. Maybe I'm just too old and set in my ways and too attached to the old characters and stories from when I was growing up. I read the 52 and IMO, they're garbage except for Nightwing.Dr. Solar wrote:Without a doubt, 52.

Oh, I've got the whole thing, I've even got their run previous to Legion Lost that leads into Legion Lost. I've previously read up to the first couple of issues of Legion Lost, so I'd like to tackle it all over from the beginning again.Lightning Strike wrote:I voted for DnA's LOSH. Voted for Animal Man because I'd like to hear opinions on it (I've yet to read). May as well take RASL as well. It won't take you too long to get through it.

I took it to mean the series called '52', not this new launch of 52 new titles...Lightning Strike wrote:I honestly don't know why everyone is so enamored with this. Re: Vacation Comic Reading
I never read much of The Legion of Super-Heroes before I read DnA's work on Legion Lost, Legion Worlds, and their run on The Legion and it is IMHO their best work to date.Lightning Strike wrote:Jersen wrote:Oh, I've got the whole thing, I've even got their run previous to Legion Lost that leads into Legion Lost. Ah, sorry guys. There's been a lot of talk around here lately about the new 52 I just figured that was what you guys were talking about. I still disagree though. Didn't care for the 52 either.ian_house wrote:Lightning Strike wrote:I honestly don't know why everyone is so enamored with this. Re: Vacation Comic Reading
Wow, I'm surprised about that Lightning! I mean, I realize to each their own, but I went into 52 thinking it would feel like some massively sprawled story and was very pleasantly surprised by the focus and organization that went into it. When I read it I borrowed the trades from my buddy, then I ended up winning the run of floppies on eBay. I kinda wish now that I'd gotten the trades now, though, because I love the little between-issue commentaries from the various creators involved. I've had a bit of a hankering to reread it with my floppies now, though, so I can read through the DC History backups that are in those.

Bump! Vacation is quickly approaching and I added the John Byrne and John Byrne/Jae Lee run of Namor to the poll. Also allowed to vote for 2 options. Help me spend my time wisely!
