Harada
Master Darque
Pete
X-O
Archer (keep thinking of Archies)
Bloodshot
Shadowman
Rai
Gilad
Sandria Darque?

If we're talking about the OLD VU, I'd replace the last two with Magnus & SOLAR

I picked these characters mainly on their overall importance and because of their integral value to VH1 as a whole.

Phil Seleski
Erica Pierce
Gilad Anni Padda
The Geomancers
Aric Dacia
Toyo Harada
John Torkleson
Magnus
Peter Stanchek
Rai
Bloodshot
HARD Corps

Omissions from my list and why

ShadowMan (Jack Boniface) Had little to no influence on the VH1 Universe as a whole and it's future (perhaps he did, but to only a few people)
Master Darque (same as above)

Also ignoring the GK3, the most important to me as a prospective reader of a new VALIANT are:

Shadowman
Master Darque
Harada
Bloodshot
X-O/Aric
Gilad
Immortal Enemy
Dr. Eclipse (yes I would like him around, even sans Solar; I liked the visual aspect and opportunities he offered)
Dr. Mirage (note I said most important to me as a reader, not most important period - that list would sort itself fairly easily)
Peter Stanchek/Sting/Visitor?
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

How about the most under-appreciated important characters in Valiant?

I would say:

Kris from Harbinger (no powers but held the team together and is the mother of Magnus)
Zephyr - always popular and maybe the first comic book geek to be a superhero in a comic book.
Rai - I think generally the most under appreciated of the title characters, though I would say the most original concept of the original Valiant Universe.

I would Argue because Phil Seleski appears long before Zephyr, that he is the first (He read Gold Key Solar as a kid.)

But Zephyr was a modern geek, not just someone who read comics as a kid. I don't think I ever saw a character use frak and grok in their regular vocabulary before Zephyr. :D

Vincent had to be put to pasture. Chiclo and MOTA are both having an emotional time right now, but for different reasons.

There's a joke about finding a goat in the tall grass but I will pass because it is too easy.

Rai - I think generally the most under appreciated of the title characters, though I would say the most original concept of the original Valiant Universe.
He really was a great character. A great character in a great world: a unique power-set, Grandmother, The "Dragon City", an estranged wife who has the X-O Commando armor, and a divided country.

I really don't think that Valiant understood what they had when they killed him.
I think they made a big mistake when they killed him in Unity. :(

And no other incarnation of Rai could live up to him.
Favorite books: Black Hammer, Bloodshot, Divinity, Justice League Dark, Marvel Two-In-One, Thor.

Agreed.

His sacrifice and the Dragon City crashing to Earth sure made for a dramatic read, but it really hurt the series from then on. They pretty much killed off the best aspects of the series in one swoop. It sure makes you wonder what they were thinking of at the time.
