NVU without Magnus and Solar
I am presently rereading my collection, and despite what I've said prior about VEI possibly being better off without the Gold Key properties (for licensing reasons), I have to say: I'll miss those elements in the relaunch.
Solar added so much depth from a 'cosmic / time altering' perspective and Magnus was the cornerstone of the 'future' Valiant universe.
I mean, Magnus was just so much damn fun; goph-speak and milespires and robots trying to be human while humans (Mekman) tried to be robots, etc, exploring the concepts of free will while Magnus rebelled against the confines of the cloud cloddies.
And Solar took us to outer space again and again, constantly on the precipice of losing control of his energy, etc.
I dunno, I'll just miss those elements in the NVU. It was just good, comic booky pulp fun. The new universe may seem very terrestrial and present by comparison.

Depending on how much the concept is changed, a lot of the themes from Magnus could be dealt with in the new Rai series.jmatt wrote:I am presently rereading my collection, and despite what I've said prior about VEI possibly being better off without the Gold Key properties (for licensing reasons), I have to say: I'll miss those elements in the relaunch.

I agree ont he cosmic front, though. Maybe baby Avagis will end up being this universe's "Solar." I have this theory that the real Avagis will be experimented on by the Vine and they will unlock his hidden human potential, resulting in Solar-like powers.

My only hope is that if they do get the rights to Solar, and if they do start publishing a new version of Solar, that when they get around to his origin story, that it starts out with Solar saying, "I feel like I've told this story a bunch of times already."

Make him the future child of Pete and Kris who has travelled back in time after being raised by robots following the Harbinger War.Dr. Solar wrote:My only hope is that if they do get the rights to Solar, and if they do start publishing a new version of Solar, that when they get around to his origin story, that it starts out with Solar saying, "I feel like I've told this story a bunch of times already."

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
While I'm a little bummed that Solar and Magnus aren't a part of the world of the new Valiant. With X-O being the first of the old gang out of the gate, the one whose lack of prescence is the biggest hole in the NuVU...

Mainly because Aric and Turok was one of the best buddy cop teams in comics with their similar backgrounds ,and predicaments in facing the modern world. Also, Turok, because he hunts dinosaurs man, any thing cooler than that ?
Don't think so.

Welcome to the boards and I agree Turok was a big loss IMHO! Big potential and BIG name. Videogames still coming out under that name!

Fudge that! How many comic book titles had a native as the lead?

I count 2. And the other was a half-breed if memory serves.

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I'll miss Solar the most. I liked an all-powerful hero who had that interesting origin story. After X-O, this was my favorite Valiant comic. Warren Simons and company can get creative and give us new, but similar concepts to these three characters. When it comes to Dark Horse selling these guys back to Valiant though, I'm a glass half empty guy. I read an nterview with Simons in the Comic Shop News and it seems like Valiant is going forward, knowing that these characters will not be in their future.

Joshua Fireseed is not a Gold Key character so he definately can be used -- you know Accliam's version of TurokIke Carr wrote:While I'm a little bummed that Solar and Magnus aren't a part of the world of the new Valiant. Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I would also be cool if they could continue the video game franchise using the Firseed storyline of Turok. They could still use a lot the neat aspects of the game and not infringe on the Turok license.BruceReville wrote:Joshua Fireseed is not a Gold Key character so he definately can be used -- you know Accliam's version of TurokIke Carr wrote:While I'm a little bummed that Solar and Magnus aren't a part of the world of the new Valiant.
