NOSTALGIA or I HEART VALIANT
Hello, I first found this site around five years ago, but only visited rarely. I began reading and collecting Valiant comics in 1991 at eight years old when my older cousin gave me one of the first Solars. I thought the art in all of the Valiant books was amazing, as a kid Joe Quesada was my favorite. I used to use tracing paper to copy all of the covers. While I did read the books, back then the reading was a little too dense for me to fully understand what was actually going on. Solar and Turok were my favorite characters. I still have all of the books I bought when I was a kid in a long box at my mother’s house.
When my mom would give me some money I would go to my LCS and always get a valiant comic and maybe a Spawn or The Maxx ( I used to draw The Maxx on everything ), or a pack of basketball cards. One day I came home with Bloodshot #6 and #8, my mom was *SQUEE* and scolded me for buying violent comic books. I guess those covers were kind of graphic.
I thought Valiant Vision was sweet and I would wear the glasses all over the place when I wasn’t reading comics; they made everything look cool. My favorite cover was X-O #21 and it might as well still be, I remember it the best.
In ’93 when I was in the 5th grade my teacher gave my class a project to write a letter to a company that we liked. Most of the kids wrote to companies trying to get free candy bars, and so on. I wrote to Valiant explaining how much I loved Turok. I remember saying I like how Turok fights dinosaurs. They did not send me a candy bar, but they did write me back on a Valiant post card telling me that somebody who worked on Turok pinned my letter up on a wall in the office, which I thought was extremely awesome. The post card they sent me remained tacked to my bedroom wall until I graduated high school and I think I still have it somewhere.
In middle school, high school, and college I loved playing basketball and lost track of Valiant, but I was aware when all of the glory had come to an end. It created a void in my soul and I realized that Valiant had been like a comfort blanket that I assumed was always going to be there for me, but was now gone. After college I have been reading all things Vertigo and The Walking Dead. When I heard that Dark Horse/Shooter planned on bringing back some old characters it ignited an old flame from childhood and that is when I started frequenting these forums. I am bummed that Magnus, Turok, and Solar are again no longer, I was enjoying those books. I hope that someday they find their way back to the Valiant universe.
Thank you for having me here. I will do my best to contribute often.

Welcome!
Just so you're not confused if people think you're someone else...
a former member on this board used the name "ManofTheAtom" and had 10,000+ posts.
(Currently #15 on this list...)
memberlist.php?mode=&sk=d&sd=d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Don't be surprised if some of the members here think you might be him.
If it's a problem, I can change your username to something else if you prefer.
Again, welcome!

I think I will stick with it and see how it goes.
It took me hours to come up with a name.
Not sure if I will be able to get to 10,000 posts in four years, but we will see. Thanks again.

Re: NOSTALGIA or I HEART VALIANT
Welcome, and great story!
I wonder if 8 year old kids can afford $4 comic books these days... It's kinda like baseball. When I was growing up, I could watch every Mets and Yankee game on tv for free. But now that you have to purchase a premium channel in order to do so, I wonder if MLBB is killing their future audience...

I loved Joe Q on the ray mini. When he came to valiant and did XO #0, kicked off Ninjak, dressed up some Solar cover, man... I was in heaven!tarheelmarine wrote:Welcome. Joe Q was my favorite as well.
