Is Archer and Armstrong a limited series?
I listened to the word balloon podcast over the weekend and Fred Van Lente said it was a 5 issue limited series. I wasn't aware of this, did I miss an announcement?

WHAT!?!?
I can't listen right now, but this would be a stunner...though I guess technically none of the books were announced as "ongoing series" we all assumed...well, you know what they say about those who assume...

That's news to me... 5 issues would be August, September, October, November, and December.orbitalshift wrote:I listened to the word balloon podcast over the weekend and Fred Van Lente said it was a 5 issue limited series. I wasn't aware of this, did I miss an announcement?

Maybe something else is planned (for all the immortal brothers) starting in January 2013?
(Eternal Warrior is "Winter 2012" which is Dec. 2012 and Jan/Feb 2013,
and we've seen the character design sketches for Ivar.)

Hopefully, Fred was referring to the length of the first story arc.

However... I have purchased some picket sign supplies and reserved 17 tour buses in california... The plan will be to travel east picking up all able bodied protestors along the way so that the buses will be filled by the time we reach VEI headquarters...
Thereby beginning the "Occupy Valiant" movement until they yeild to our demands and give us 99%ers our fair share of quality ongoing monthly titles!
J/k... (i havent reserved the buses yet)
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

I am pretty sure it had been confirmed that all 4 titles were ongoing.

From what I have gathered, I think VEI plans on having each story arc be 5 issues long unless otherwise specified.

Re: Is Archer and Armstrong a limited series?
Listened to most of the (rambling and somewhat interesting)podcast up to the point of the Valiant stuff.
if you want to listen to just the valiant stuff, ff to 51:30.
he says it is a 5 issue mini...and is pretty firm with that. His explanation of the premise is a bit spoilery (plot points) but it sounds really really interesting.
Spoilers below
I am reading into the comment, what I took is that Aram might not be immortal, he mentioned that Aram "holds he secret of his own immortality and the secret of great power that fueled a pre-Great Flood society" the arc focuses on A&A having to searching out a device that could bring about the end of the world. Aram hid parts of this device around the world and so our hero's are trying to find it before The Sect do.
Very interesting. I wonder if they are going with a limited series it leads into EW in some way. I really really REALLY wanted this to be an ongoing series.

wow, that spoiler code sucks. I made the text color black so you can click and drag over the area if you want to read it.

I would be very shocked if A&A was a mini, but I guess we'll see. Anyone talk to Dino or tweet Valiant to see if this is true?

If it's a mini, I'm good with that. In fact, I think that would be the better way to go. Everyone loves A&A for BWS's stuff. After that, and IMO even some of the BWS stuff, it wasn't very good.
Minis would ensure the best stories are put out there and they aren't just putting out garbage to fill a month. Buddy books DO tend to get old quick in the marketplace.

Re: Is Archer and Armstrong a limited series?
I am going to be bummed if it is a mini series with 4 covers for the first issue. For some reason that seems like over kill to have as many variants of #1 as the total issues in the run.

Dear Valiant:
Dark Horse tried the limited series after limited series after limited series.
Without saying 'that sucks' or 'don't do that' or 'I won't buy if you do that...' Um...
Dark Key isn't really producing much anymore are they?

Hellboy. BPRD. Series of LSs produced by Dark Horse.
You can't compare anything to Dark Key except as a warning not to allow crappy art to be published in books telling 60s stories.

Re: Is Archer and Armstrong a limited series?
All I'm saying is, if Valiant wants to be 'setting a new pace,' that road has been traveled and lost. Not just by Dark Key characters. By Aliens, Star Wars, Buffy, and yes, Gold Key Dark Horse books. Solicitations until September 26, 2012 includes 109 comics.400yrs wrote:Hellboy. BPRD. Series of LSs produced by Dark Horse.

21 are past issue 10.
That's under twenty percent.
If Valiant keeps producing great stuff, I will keep buying. But if they keep re-launching comic book lines over and over again with four different covers, I won't lean on my comic shop to keep buying all of the books to push for the 1:50, 1:20, etc.
That might eventually affect the long-term growth.
I see Dark Horse perpetually as a Dark Horse - but one that won't ever win, really.
If Valiant wants to be that third company - they should do something different than Dark Horse.

Re: Is Archer and Armstrong a limited series?
I'm all for limited series on somewhat ancillary characters that might not be able to pull their own weight in an ongoing series, but a&A is definitely not in that category. Geomancer, perhaps, but not Aram.
Greg should have a hotline to the VEI offices to squelch rumours (?) like this.
