Awesome!
My only beef was the seemingly computer generated vortex. Otherwise, WOW! Master Darque!
I love the off center logo in the Dorman cover!
And a Sienkiewicz variant?!?!?!?! Hell yeah!
This looks great!

I assumed that as well.Blood of Heroes wrote:He's with a pregnant chick. Maybe that's Jack's dad.tchalla8 wrote:Doesn't seem like the bald thing lasts maybe....the cover images all have hair. Or maybe the bald guy isn't Boniface but a prevous incarnation of Shadowman.Heath wrote:The more I read it, the more my heart sank. But no so much as to boycott the book or anything. Jack is now a big bald black guy with a goatee? What an original look. They're keeping elements of the original that worked, but he's not a musician anymore?
VEI has done nothing but amazing work so far and I'm trying to remain open-minded about Shadowman but I am so darn attached to the Bob Hall version that it is really hard to accept this much change. But I'm trying. Hopefully I end up loving it. As long as it's better than the Garth Ennis crap, I guess I'll be happy.
I'm guessing that is Master Darque in the last panel of each of the first two preview pages?
Comic probably opens 23 years earlier with big scene of invading monsters, Jack's dad (with Shadowman logo centered) fights off bad guys who vow to return, Dad gives mother the emblem is not seen again until issue 9 or so because he has to go into the vortex to keep Darque from coming back. Jack grows up without a father and hating him for abandoning him and mother. Later reconciles (issue 12) when they team up to stop Darque's latest attempt.
or maybe the talisman is handed off before the battle and then Jack's dad dies during the battle, sacrificing himself to stop Darque. Something like that.

You are both kind of right. I did make a mistake revealing Zircher's involvement in the book earlier than Valiant wanted to, but we caught it pretty early, and removed all mentions of the comment. A few people who saw it did not mention it again, hopefully out of respect, if not for me then for Valiant's marketing efforts that I could have messed up.tchalla8 wrote:I'm assuming Ed knew that it was Shadowman and when it was coming, but not the creative team maybe.grendeljd wrote:I thought perhaps he already knew this stuff and was having trouble keeping the secret! I did see the art a few months ago, and have been dying to tell someone, which may be the reason that I "spilled the beans" when I saw the preview image, without much forethought. Will never happen again, that's for sure. I did not know the writer was Jordan, but I knew about Zircher's involvement. He happens to be one of the artists I love and follow.

He is just saying that the Shadowman pullbox variant will be blacked out but you will still see Shadowman in a different hue of black that is similar/reminiscent to the Solar TPBpossumgrease wrote:Wait. Wow, the interior art on this book looks absolutely amazing and the character design is freakin' stellar, I can't wait to tear this one open and see how this character fits into the Valiant universe and what kind of cool stories will be told with a character such as this. This book is a complete surprise, most of us were waiting on the Eternal Warrior book that was announced in the FCBD giveaway and to see that Shadowman is coming out of thin air just like this is absolutely awesome!

Re: Shadowman creative team announced *WITH SPOILERS*
The best part is it's NOT out of thin air (well maybe to most of us regular folks). But it is obvious this has been in the works for a while if the first issue's art is basically in the can and JJ and Zirch (that's right, we're cool like that) have scripted out multiple arcs. That is what is setting the new Valiant apart from other recent start-ups: foresight and planning.manga4life wrote:Wow, the interior art on this book looks absolutely amazing and the character design is freakin' stellar, I can't wait to tear this one open and see how this character fits into the Valiant universe and what kind of cool stories will be told with a character such as this.
