I remember when Greg picked up a Birth of the Defiant Universe CGC 9.8 on the Collectors Society Forum for under $200 a while back, and was shocked it hadn't gone for more.
Well I tried to sell one at $200 for several months, and eventually settled on around $180 I believe...a high percentage of these books are NM/M...
My CGC 9.8 Birth of the Defiant Universe is signature series (yellow label), signed by Jim Shooter in 2008.

Bragging rights - your best deal of late?

Post by Trenton Sy »

At a flea market today hit some minor scores - decent but really beat up FF #52 for $3 -
nm+ Pitt 33 and 34 for $1
Rai 0 $1
Some cool "book and record" combos with the typical corner cuts - FF, Conan and Star Trek for $1 each

Bought a Magnus #64 today at an antique shop.
40 cents.
I talked him down from 50 cents.

I also bought a bunch of other Valiant titles for 40 cents.
I also bought some TMNT books from another vendor and sealed the deal by him throwing in 10 Valiants for free.

Went into a recently expanded comic shop that a friend works in, dug through two long boxes of Valiant stuff and nabbed the following VH1's for $5 total;

Bloodshot 6 & 7
Eternal Warrior 14 & 15
Harbinger 6(w/c) & 33
X-O 30, 31, & 32

They had many more I'm missing, but I thought they were going to be $2 a book, so I went for what I wanted most this time.

The Harby 6 was the gem, though I'm not sure it's mint - there aren't any spine creases but there is some scuffing that shows on all the white bits along the spine of the cover. They actually had 5 or 6 copies of it there, only one was missing the coupon... I'm gonna have to make another trip there soon.

Yard sale finds from this weekend, all comics were 3 for $1:

Incredible Hulk 340
Deadpool 54
Batman Vengeance of Bane (1st print)
New Teen Titans # 2 (2 copies - one signed by George Perez)
&
MARVEL SPOTLIGHT # 5

FWIW, in this age of the internet, I just can't understand why some people are too lazy to research values of their books (not that I'm complaining....)

From another yard sale two 50-cent pickups: GI Joe 21 (1st print) & Amazing Spidey 252.

You better believe it.

I blew off picking up a Vengeance of Bane so I could focus on other titles/books first. Then the market went crazy for this book.

It's one of those where you just need to let the market cool off.

I think you're right about that book, too many copies around....when the Batman hype dies down it should cool off. And I don't envision Bane with the same diehard fanbase as seen with other newer characters such as Deadpool or Harley Quinn

and yes, Spotlight 5 = 1st Ghost Rider

My VERY first VH1 books purchase:

Shadowman 4,5,7,8,9 and 15 for 3.99 pounds (p&p included- that's 2 euros for each book); I reckon Shadowman 8 alone is a $6.00 book.

Not bad, I guess? :?

Very nice. And they are bagged and boarded. None of the ones I found were bagged and boarded so they weren't in the best shape.

Where did you find those?
