Con packing list
Is there anyone that you, as seasoned convention participants, would suggest bringing that I might overlook?
I have a box of sharpies and ball point pens. I have a fleece blanket and foldable chair (in case I have to stay all night in a line). I have a backpack and a poster tube.
I am also looking at sketch books to bring. Anyone have a good recommendation (ideally a link to Amazon or something?) I have heard that 5.5x8 is a good size.

Definitely bottled water. Other snacks that fit in your bag are good too. I usually munch on something while at a panel. The food they sell at the convention is horribly overpriced and even more horrible tasting. I make a list of specific issues that I want to look for, don't think you will remember the issue number cuz you won't in all the excitement. Books you want to get autographed and don't forget all your electronic chargers and such as well. Also I have a list of the artist I want to try and get sketches from. Artist Alley can be very overwhelming and intimidating so the more prep work you do ahead of time the better. As far as sketch books go ... I got mine at an art supply store, but I put a link below from Amazon to one that is nearly identical to mine. I like the 8 1/2 x 11 size cuz I want the artist to have plenty of room. One thing to think about is if you want to have a themed sketch book or if you are just going to have one for all the commissions you get. For example I have one sketch book that is just for Legion of Superheroes characters and I have one for Justice League characters and a third for Valiant characters (though that is still blank.) I have another that I use for anything I want that is random.

Re: Con packing list
H2O and snack and TONS of cash. You DO not what to have to make an ATM run. If you think you are going to spend $500, bring like $800.
Bring a map of the floor and have all the places you want to go highlighted.
If you've never been there, you will not be ready once you walk in. Heck, I've been a bunch and know a bunch of the in and outs, and there is still times that I get lost.
I think the most important thing to bring is preparedness.
The show floor is CRAZY. Oh, and if you can stay away from the middle..... you can get stuck and not be able to get out.

If you happen to run into Levar Burton, make sure you've got it together.

You have no idea how much I have to agree to this. I usually go to my local comic shows about once a month and it never fails for me to encounter at least one ripe fan boy that will send me running for the hills.Phantom wrote:Deodorant!

Re: Con packing list
I will never forget the day we flew out in 2010. We get off the plane at 4 pm and the temperature was 67 in late July. Seemed almost wrong. When I went in 2006, they were in the throws of a heat wave and my friend Clayton was telling me it was not normally this hot. It was like 94. I told him it had been too long since he had been home.cjv wrote:I can't wait for the nice, cool weather of San Diego!

I was waching CSI ( a silly luxury I rarely have time for ~ TV and it was on ~ OH then I watched a bit of Dirty Sancheze ~ those guys are really sick as in filthy sick ~ Jackass has nothing on this).
ANYway.
Isn't their a cream you can put in your nose to decontaminate the incomming smell.
Or like the local corner shop, when the AA rejects come in at 0800 (not allowed to sell before hand / 1000 on sunday) when I get the paper/ milk etc. The shop keeper gets out the air freshener and sprays it arround the shop.
As a comic shop manager ~ at least we had the courtacy to wait untill they leave. Yes smelly fan boys in Australia aswell.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.
