I was thinking about that, but since they already came out with the pin like that in the shop I was wondering if there would be enough interest in a patch too.

Yeah good point. Probably not as popular as the other patches mentioned.

I bet you you can work out a close to diamond discount from someone.
I'm pretty sure I know someone that I can do that through.

A HARD Corps patch for the Harbinger War TPB would be super cool, I'd pay $15 for that as that would be the cost of the TPB.

This is a great idea, cheers to Nonplayer for stirring the pot and to Sir Sandrick for picking up the ball and running with it

There are a ton of great pictures of our jackets in Dr. Mirage's SDCC panel photos thread too. Mine is the men's jacket and Jay's is actually a women's size. I will post up some info on how we made them soon too for anyone interested.

I have wanted to post about how we made our jackets for some time now, so here it goes- starting from the inception.

I was walking in Target one day and thought to myself "That jacket over there has Harbinger like colors and general patterns! I wonder...

This is the style of jacket that I saw that day at Target. It is a jacket that is part of the C9 collection by Champion. It is also a Target exclusive from what it looks like, but you may be able to get it online.
Image

Basically, what I did was buy one of the jackets with the blue sleeves and black base as well as a full black version of the same exact style jacket with the same exact cuts (makes it super easy for the seamstress - and the easier you make it for them the better deal they will cut you)

Then, I made very detailed instructions to give to the local seamstress that I took it to for the alterations. These were:

-The blue from the top chest area of the blue one needs to be removed and placed onto the black jacket.
-The blue area on the top of the chest needs to be cut to ascend from the armpits to the collar line (gave her picture from the comic as an illustration of this)
-The blue across the back ascends in a similar fashion meeting in the middle (gave her picture from the comic as an illustration of this)
-There are two blue strands around the cuffs on each side (gave her picture from the comic as an illustration of this)
-There was no possibility of getting a blue zipper, so instead we decided that it would look good to have piping along the zipper (made from the leftover fabric from the blue sleeves)

That was for the first jacket.

The second jacket was made in a similar fashion, except that Jay wanted to have a specific women's jacket that fit her, so it was a little bit tougher to find the base pieces at Target. instead of getting two jackets like for the first we got a women's black jacket and a blue t-shirt that was the same color (nifty how the "collections" in stores try to go together so well!)

Fortunately, I was able to ask my step mother, who is a professional theatre seamstress, to complete the second for one for us. I sent the first along with it and so it was more easy for her to have a physical representation that she could replicate. The only difference was that the women's didn't have blue on the cuffs in the comic.

Having really good reference art for them to reference is key to it everything coming out right. I think that for the first jacket I spent about 60 on materials and 100 for the seamstress work. The second one was about 40 for materials and the seamstress was free thanks to my awesome step mom!

Of course, the patches made it all come together at the end ;)

btw- I just inherited my grandmother's sewing machine and I am learning to do my own work now... total noob!

Got my patch today, and the recruitment flyer. LOVE IT! Way to really bring home the experience. Great job!

I'm looking forward to many more of these patches for library TPBs projects!

Wow that was fast! Glad to hear that it made it to you ok!

We are looking into getting the stamps made for the books, which should get here in a few weeks.

80 books - it makes me so excited to think about all of the potential new fans we could reach through this. If each of those 80 books were to be seen by only 50 people per year... fun to think about :)

Someday I hope that there are some "My Valiant Story" posts that start with something like "I found this book at a library that was donated by Carson..." --- how awesome of a feeling would that be!

I donated the old X-O and Rai TPBs to my local library a few years ago. I have been back a couple of times and have not seen either one. It is possible that neither of them made it to the shelf and that they were sold at the Friends of the Library book sale.

There is also always that possibility that someone may like the books so much that they don't return them I guess, but there is a pretty good chance that many will be there for years to come. Right now I am making a list of libraries that I know that support a large graphic novel section and would be happy to add to it. With each group of the first trades I will be checking on their system to make sure that they get put into circulation.

Ideally, over the next year I think it would be great to get a group of all #1 trades to these same 40 libraries, giving Valiant a good presence there.

I work at at a library and very few donations make it to the shelves.
Most end up in the books sale (I get first dibs on the graphic novels  )
I checked our county system and no VH1 books are currently in circulation, may have been some 18 years ago, but were long since withdrawn.

In over 80 library locations, we have only 1 copy of the Bloodshot, and none of the other collections. facepalm

That is definitely a good thing to be aware of. I think when I take them there I will try to talk to someone and not simply drop them off. Also, I will check out their graphic novel section to see how much room it has. I would think that they would be more willing to take new books if there is room to shelve them. When I talk to someone I will try to express that these are new and current books that its fans would like to donate to circulation.

It will be a learning process I am sure, but I am sure that there are things that I can do to increase the chances of them being on shelves.

Thanks to Sanders and Jay for the great Harbinger patch! I saw the post via Twitter and they saved me one for the long USPS trip to the East Coast. I'm not that great with messageboards so I will try and keep up with you guys.

Good luck with the donation process! Hopefully a local comic store can help you get good pricing through Diamond or even ordering them through InStockTrades for lower price.

The return of H.A.R.D. Corps has brought me ALL IN to Valiant and I have caught up on all the TPs for Archer & Armstrong, Bloodshot, Harbinger and X-O while getting Harbinger Wars monthly. I also tracked down the POC Hardcovers from 2008.

Here was my FanArtFriday from last month
https://twitter.com/Jthuconn/status/348 ... 60/photo/1

Bring on the H.A.R.D. Corps patch next!
