So I was at my LCS today for FCBD. I saw a lot of people passing on the Valiant books. I gently told a some folks they should pick them up. I mean they are free so you aren't risking anything. Hopefully Valiant can pick up a couple more readers.

My store had a few Valiant books available, but two other store owners said the Valiant books were sold out very quickly. I also saw a very young boy grabbing every book he could get his hands on and he took the last Armor Hunters book and I was next in line!Intrepidxc wrote:So I was at my LCS today for FCBD. I'm not trying to start anything, and believe me I'm not the "board cop" or anything.... but if you went around today to get these FREE books for yourself and you have some extras.... how about you provide a service for the peeps here instead of selling something you got for free TODAY.
To me, and I'm sorry, I don't usually react this way...... and I'm sure I'll probably regret it.... but selling something you got for free today on this board.... Valiant Fans.... seems ..... poor taste.
On ebay sure..... heck I sell on ebay, I sell at cons as a business.
But, to me.... we are a community, it's a bit taking advantage of the peeps here. I'll probably be in the minority here, but how about you give these away. Or at least wait a while.....
I'd bet that anyone that needs these books can get them for free (just pay shipping) from someone if they asked.
Honestly, it just seems quick to try and get some "gas money" from the peeps here.
I remember when svair (way back in the day) found a box of Harby #1s with coupons, do you know what he did.... he created a board project (an AMAZING ONE) and sold them for cost (I remember that he sold the entire project for less than the "price" of a harby #1, I know this because it was the 1st Harby 1 I've ever had) . That was his first thought, spreading the goods out.....
Now I've for sure sold books here, and there is for sure a place for it, it is part of the hobby. But tryng to flip FCBD Valiant books hours after you got them.... agian.... it just seems worng.
Now, I'm not saying that you are a bad dude, it just seems a bit early to be cashing in on thses free books.

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
I think it is unfair to judge Michael for selling these for a profit. How many times have you sold something to a member for a profit? I know I have done it several times. Just because he is selling these doesn't mean he is all about money. He has hooked me up before and he is a awesome board member.Elveen wrote:mkb28 wrote:I did all the driving so you don't have to.Elveen wrote:chriskay99 wrote:That was fast.

As I stated, I've sold on the board, but I've never sold a FCBD book literally hours after if came out. It just rubbed me the wrong way, and you know what .... it still does.Bobby wrote:I think it is unfair to judge Michael for selling these for a profit. Let's say a month later and someone posts ..... Hey anyone have one to sell? Then sure, if you don't want to give away some thing to another board member that you got for free, that everyone knows you got for free.... then, it's all good, go for it. But hours after you got it for free.... it's just not right, in my book. This is not ebay, we are a comminity, you got it for free and then you look to sell it right away. I'm sorry, it does not feel right to me.
Then what is it for? got for free, selling for $$$ hours after he got it. how is it not for $$$$..... explain it to me.Bobby wrote:Just because he is selling these doesn't mean he is all about money.
I have, more than once. But I can tell you this.... I have given away more books than I've sold by a long shot, or sold a book / books worth say $20 and included as many free books and a bonus. But as I stated, I have no problem with selling, none at all, I do it to provide for my family, as business. But have you seen how many times I pimp my ebay sales trying to get a sale from a board member.......? I can tell you how many.... zero. Now if someone states they are looking for a book I might PM them, but I have never pushed my ebay store, never. (now people that do.... cool, I just don't). When a new "hot" book starts to blow up and get hot, do you know how many of those I try to flip here on the board? Zero. Do you know how many of those books I have... ALL OF THEM. It's my business to have them, and I sell them all the time and do quite well with them.... I just don't do it here. I choose not to.Bobby wrote:How many times have you sold something to a member for a profit?
Do you know how many FREE books I've given away to bord members when I see them at cons? When they come to my place of business, a booth I have paid BIG $$$ for, and they ask "how much for that"..... ask Doc how many times I've said, "take it", or %50 off my price.
again....

This did not sit right with me and like I stated, I usually stay away from stuff like this, but I posted it and now I gotta live with it.

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
FWIW, I had similar thoughts in line with elveen's when I opened the thread earlier in the day. My thoughts though were along the lines of why take extra copies of books out of local stores and move them on the site when someone with no experience with valiant could check them out for free? I went to a few stores and just got one copy (not one at each store) for myself and that's it. I understand trying to get them into board member's hands, but I'd rather see an impact locally.
I don't have a problem with the asking price. The price is fine. You are making.... What $6-$7 after shipping. I'd just charge for shipping or nothing at all, but that's me and the spirit of a lot of people on the boards, but everyone is free to do as they please. Similarly, others are free to determine what they think of the actions others take. It's all good in the hood.
Having said all that, the copy of the handbook I got is a double cover so if someone wants to send me...... Say 2k, I'm all for it (no I didn't go back to the pile and check any other copies.... I just noticed it in line and said cool and left the store).

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
I tend to agree with ckb. $10 is fair if you couldn't get your own FCBD books and you want them. That covers the time spent driving to stores (he could only get one per store), time spent packaging, and mailing the books.
No one jumped on Ed when he sold his stores FCBD books for $10. Couldn't Ed have just asked for the cost of shipping?
My point is that no one is forcing anyone to buy these books. If someone wants them in is willing to pay for them then it works out. If someone wants them but isn't willing to pay $10 then they won't buy them. That's the free market in work.

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
Finally some wi-Fi and my iPad so I can actually type a response. First, I apologize to Elveen and 400yrs and to any other board member that I offended who didn't post a response. Secondly, I appreciate the words of support from other board members too.
Looking back I was too over zealous in getting these listed and my wife said the same thing as Elveen!
I hate when she is right!
I looked at the situation as providing a service and I really was not making any money off these sales. When you factor in bubble wrap, cardboard, a bubble wrap mailer, shipping costs and PayPal fees, plus five hours of visiting stores in Kansas City, there is not much left to go in PayPal.
I know many board members cannot get to an LCS and I thought this would be a way to get these books in their hands for an inexpensive cost. Ever since VEI launched, these FCBD books have been listed in the guide with a $3.00 value and the 2012 books were one of my first purchases from a board member on this site. So, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong in selling these books, but I admit the timing was premature.
One board member sent a PM last night to buy a set, so I will tell him to only send $5.00. That should cover the shipping costs and fees. If anyone else needs a set, the same deal applies to you too.
Thanks,
Michael

Bottom line, I should have minded my own busniess.
Peeps can do what ever they like. It's not my job to tell peeps
What they can do or not do.
I don't like being told what to do, so I should not be telling someone what to do.

I don't agree with this statement either. This a forum for sharing our joy of Valiant and the Valiant community. If we start regulating what people can share then we really don't have a community. I personally want people to tell me when they think I'm being an *SQUEE*.Elveen wrote:Bottom line, I should have minded my own busniess.

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
Well that math is totally different. The books are about 35 cents each, my 10 copies cost about $4, plus another $4 in shipping. That leaves $2 for the time my employee will have to pack them. To be honest, I am probably losing a couple of dollars on it.Intrepidxc wrote: No one jumped on Ed when he sold his stores FCBD books for $10. Couldn't Ed have just asked for the cost of shipping?
$10 for TWO books is a totally different ball game, and as someone who sells a lot on this board, my initial internal gut reaction was "eww" but hey, to each their own.

Oh, I know, I did not take it that way at all. And yeah, everyone can do what they want.Intrepidxc wrote:Ed, my point wasn't to bash you (in fact I bought a setparadise wrote:Well that math is totally different. The point was that no one forces anyone to buy anything on this board. Your FCBD offer was similar and I was using it as a point of reference.

Re: WTS VALIANT 2014 FCBD SETS- 4 SETS AVAILABLE!
I completely agree that anyone can do what they want. Everyone has a different way to access their books.
Ordering a box of the VF FCBD Books last year and I can tell you that Ed isn't kidding about his employees time to pack them.
Ed also did not put into account shipping supplies + counting damaged books from his shipments.
Hawkeyeps would back me up on that
We would probably see a different reaction if these were the Canadian, UK or the Philippine Valiant FCBD Books.
Just on the side note, I had asked my cousin in the Philippines to get a copy and no luck.
Fortunately, Erwin Rafael was able to secure me two copies
.
The international versions will be more $$$.
