Will look like a bargain in the not too distant future. My advice to all the peeps on the board is to stock up on Harby 1's.

It was the old CGC red label on the Unity #1 Gold (graded Feb 28, 2001) that made me pull the trigger. :D
Very very few people were bothering to grade Valiant books with CGC pre-2002.

For flipping purposes, does it make more sense to buy regular copies instead of slabs?

I mean, a X-O Manowar 1 in CGC 9.8 is always going to be worth more than a raw copy. But with this recent surge are the raw copies multiplying in sales value at a higher rate than the slabbed copies?

I think part of what we're seeing may be due to availability. We've seen an X-O #1 CGC 9.8 sell for $175. That's nearly double the going rate prior to the announcement. There are just more raw copies out there of these books. I think you're safe buying either if you can get them for a decent price.

Man it just seems like yesterday when SQUUE was dumping these for $55-60 a piece....I guess that's the speculator age, turn around and things take off like hot cakes.

A few observations:

CLEARLY Harby #1 was the most expensive, but it also always has been. With Dinesh's recent post we can expect an EXPLOSION in prices immediately!
dino wrote:...My advice to all the peeps on the board is to stock up on Harby 1's...
X-O Manowar #4 appears to be IMPOSSIBLE to find, and when you do find, it isn’t cheap. As a Pre-Unity book with a LOW print run, this might be a BEAST!

Eternal Warrior #4 appears to be the current leader (at least in demand and price) in the first appearance of Bloodshot debate, and is commanding SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER price than many of the other speculated books.

Solar Man of the Atom #3 is also up there, and with the HIGH POTENTIAL of a Harby project earlier than anticipated, this book (1st appearance of Harada) will likely be similar to EW #4 and XO #4; but more like XO #4 due to the lower print-run which will soon greatly limit the supply.

The C2E2 Valiant 2012 Preview is REALLY turning out to be the sleeper book! Cited as the 1st VEI publication, and (possibly) the first VEI appearances of XO and Harbinger, and also in limited supply, this might soon be hard to get your hands on in high grade, or any grade for that matter.

I wonder if VEI stil has stacks of these, along with the 2012 FCBD book. I got mine at a 2012 show from them, before X-O 1 came out. They must have printed a TON, for handouts.

Noobie question :hm:
How does CGC grade a pre-Unity book with it's coupon missing, or cut?

If they notice it, it gets a green Qualified label indicating missing or cut coupon or card.

Missing or cut means the book's incomplete, and they will most definitely notice it, regardless of how nice a copy it might actually be.

In these cases, the book will receive a Green ("Qualified") Label...which I s'pose would be fitting if it slabbed today.

Happy St. Paddy's day, me shamrocked brudders :D !

Speakin' o' that, what's fer lunch today? Classic fish'n'chips, traditional shepherd's pie, or just straight-up yummy bangers'n'mash?

What are they valued at, compared to a regular CGC 9.8?

Guess where I'm going... is it worth it to get a coupon less book slabbed?

I bought several of these from My Comic Shop several years ago. They were almost giving them away. I think it was $1.10 each. What's next? Will X-O Manowar: Retribution go for big bucks, too? facepalm

My Comic Shop still has the Harbinger TPB at a cheap cost. Jump on it!
