I thought the panel was sparse, but informative. Charles was gracious, full of stories, and really tried to fill the missing holes from the other creators that were not present. I enjoyed his stories, especially the one about how coloring was done at VALIANT. The host kept things going, although he did not cut off a few attendees when their talking took up valuable time that could have been presented by Charles. Thanks for he signed UNITY, it will find a special spot in my collection.
The convention was too crowded. I remember my first year in 1992 when you could park across the tracks and walk. Now, we have to take the trolley from far away. Saturday was spent in panels all day. They sold too many one day tickets and the fire marshal cut off sales at noon. Sunday between 430 and 5 was fun. I usually leave in the afternoon, but this year we decided to leave on Monday, so watching the dealer-last minute buyer frenzy was kool. 70% off, 80% off. I joked to my friend that it would soon be 100% off and they would give you a free wheel barrel to haul out your booty.
Lou Farigno was rude as usual. Richard Hatch was very friendly. Matt Wagner signed and drew headshots in our books for free and told stories. That guy is awesome. The media section is creeping north. The comic dealers are shrinking. My guess is that within five years only CHUCK will be ale to afford to go. Then it will just be San Diego international, and we'll have t stay in AZ for the PHX con to get $1.00 books. Valiants there are a joke; you have to dig hard to find almost nothing. Silver age dealers are almost gone. Collecting the entire Flash V1 run is getting harder.
Great fun, costumes, and panels. We went to two writers panels and that helped me out a lot.

Had a great time in SD meeting fellow board members and past Valiant artists. I did not spend any time looking though comic boxes this year. I did pick up a few pages of artwork and something for a board member. Most of my time was spent at my table promoting my book. My neighbors at the con were very nice to chat with and made the days fly by.

This was my view from the other side of the table.

I'm very sorry to have backed out on my commitment to appear at the Valiant Panel on Saturday. I want everyone to know that there are very few thing that can get me reneg on a scheduled appearance, but earlier in the day, a person I really needed some facetime with invited me to take a lunch with him. This lunch was so important since it could get the ball rolling on determining exactly how my career shapes up for the next few years. Saturday afternoon is sort of the apex of the whole week long con, and is the most difficult slot to schedule creators.
My thinking was that there would be only a handfull of people in the audience, and I wanted to make it known that Bernard and I would avail ourselves at our booth to talk about anything for any length of time to make up for missing it. It wasn't until after the panel that I found out that so many people showed up in the audience, and that not being there probably had a much more negative effect than I had thought. For that I apologize.

For the record, Sean, Bernard and Tommy Lee were GREAT at the show. Some of my best moments were at the Blvd booth (tell Tommy Lee that I am STILL laughing over 'that one') and all three members took time out individually to speak to any number of Valiant Fans that made their way to see them.
I hold Sean, Bernard and Tommy Lee in VERY high regard. While it would have been great to see them on the panel, I would like to think that everyone involved understands how 'stuff happens' at a Convention and does not think bad of you guys. Your character, past works and fantastic additions to Valiant in the past and here in the present speaks volumes. Thank you for both posting here in regards to the Con.
I look forward to seeing you guys next year and am definately up for some dinner and drinks (we will just have to keep Tommy Lee in line
)
By the way, guys... I had NO idea that Neal Adams was going to come and talk to you guys (but I am glad that he did... it's nice to have that kind of support dontcha think ?
) !!!

Neal Adams and his lovely wife actually showed up for the CGC Forum Dinner (as did Don Rosa, Maggie Thompsen, and others.)Knightt wrote:By the way, guys... Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
