Just finished reading Batman Bride of the Demon...it was pretty stupid.

I wish I'd read ALL of Mike Barr's Batman stories 15 years ago.

Sigh.

Also read Annual #8...also horrifically bad.

Argh.

I thought that Illuminati #1 was one of the best comics to come out in months. :thumb:

Comics I've recently dropped from the pull list

Dr Strange
Iron fist
Ant man

Uncanny X-men. The entire Brubaker run has sucked *SQUEE*. In fact, I don't even think its really him writing it...

And I think I'll be dropping 52 pretty soon. I've lost all interest in that series. It was great to get a look characters like Ralph Dibny and the Question but its starting to get seriously boring...

All I care about 52 is that someone spoils the whole thing for me when it's finally over.

I picked up Illuminati when it came out a couple of weeks ago, only because CSN mentioned that it will involve the Infinity Gauntlet, and I love all things Infinity put out by Marvel, even Infinity Crusade and Infinity Abyss.

I'll pick up the second issue definitely. The first was kind of funny, but I am really avoiding Civil War related books.

I read Illuminati 1 and was expecting something stronger, especially after last year's teaser issue tying into Civil War. I will pick up the series but haven't we seen this kind of ret-conned continuity stuff from Marvel before?

I really digged Illuminati #1, good to see a cosmic scale super-kick-off.

Dr Strange and Blackbolt cutting loose, suitless Tony Stark doing his best Flash Gordon impression, Skrulls being just plain Evil, what's not to love?

I suspect that seeing the power of these guys on a cosmic scale will pay off when, a little down the line, we see them pulling the strings at an insidious, terrestrial level.

As for other books worth a read right now... White Tiger has been pretty entertaining.

Just picked up House of M, Avengers Disassembled and Identity Crisis all in Tradepaperback over the holidays.

Damn I miss collecting from the shelf.

I'm reading the Crisis on Infin earths TPB I just got......

I like it (almost half way through) but..... at times I am VERY confused..... the only DC characters I know are the basics..... and there are about 50-60 or so characters so far........ it is kinda hard to keep up.....

and the Earth 1, 2,, 3, 5, 10..... thing is TERRIBLE...... so I can see why they wrote Crisis to get rid of it.

But I will say this...... I love how much dialogue there is..... I miss the days of 5, 6, 7, comic boxes per page, it takes longer to read, which is what I like.

Try around 600-700 characters by the end of the series, and about 60 or 70 in the final battle.

The Earth numbers was actually quite straightforward I thought, as it was always used in context.

I don't mind it in small doses...the earth 1 2 etc. But when its a massive crossover...man its like trying to watch 100 channels at the same time. Even Elvis could only handle what? 8 channels?

Some things I like about COIE and Infinite Crisis but not when it gets too muddled.

That is kind of what I meant. In most pre-COIE stories you would have a small handful of alternate worlds, and in turn context about who was from which ones. COIE even introduced some extras (the Charlton Earth for example), and so was inevitably confusing, but the point of COIE was not to understand the multiverse, but to see it's destruction and rationalisation to a single Earth.

I was reading The Boys by Ennis. Very violent, very bloody, very rude, very crude, and pretty entertaining.

Not something I'd let any kid read, but I liked it and want to see where the series goes from issue 6.

I heard, but Ennis and the artist own the properties, so it's just a matter of finding another publisher and it's back on. Hopefully, they'll do just that. :hope:

Here's an update on what I'm reading at the moment...

DC
Action Comics
All Star Batman & Robin
All Star Superman
Batman
Justice League of America
Superman/Batman

Wildstorm
Authority
Deathblow
Wetworks
Wildcats
Friday the 13th

Marvel
Captain America
Daredevil
Eternals
Ultimates

Independents
Criminal
Mouse Guard
Walking Dead
Gumby

Wizard Magazine

I mean come on 11 DC/ Wildstorm titles...vs 4 Marvel ones?

And since A/S Batman is half-yearly now and so is Ultimates and Eternals is a mini...you'r looking at 10 to 2! 10 to 2?!

From the 1st Gambit to X-men 1...from when Dale Keown and Mcfarlane were still on Hulk and Amazing Spidey...I never got ONE DC book...Not ONE...

The only DC books I got were Azrael...Vengeance of Bane...Knightfall...and Death of Supes..and they were event driven...not regular titles I picked up.

Of course I used to get the occasional Batman or whatever but the art and story were always so cr@p I used to throw them in the bin

So from what? 10-15 Marvel books and NO DC books...to 10 DC books and 2 Marvel books!...Sad man...very sad...and I always considered myself Marvel-only...

Make that yearly, since #4 was out May 2006 and now #5 is now set for.... May 2007. (And we're not even sure if it'll make THAT ship date since they said that #5 would be out in January)

I finally read the Dark Tower book I bought. It was pretty good...

I'll get around reading those NIO issues I bought from 96VF soon, tell you all what I think.

-slym (is going into NIO with low expectations)
