Re: question about bulk buys...
That's it folks, I believe it's everything....67 slabs in total, I'll let someone else do the math, it's been an exhausting week for me so I'm off to bed. I hope you enjoy looking at these beauties, seeing these covers in person in this condition is just awesome.

Holy high-grade bronze and silver! Nice! The Strange 169 takes the cake. I've never bought anything like that in that condition and age. What a score! I've always loved the Kirby Demon issues. I have some high grade raws that I think I'll slab. Strange aside, I think those are my favorite of your lot.

I couldn't make out all the slabs in the pictures, but you will be able to sell most of those if you head over the Collectors Society forums.

Ya I haven't decided which books I want to sell yet, I know the 169 is the biggest book of the lot, but I can recoup a good chunk of money for the lot by selling it. I think what I'll do is gradually sell of the books I care the least about until I get close to breakeven then decide from there.nycjadie wrote:Holy high-grade bronze and silver! Nice! Sorry, I know the pictures aren't the greatest, here's the original list of what he sent me. And yes, I think I might head over to the CGC forums, we'll see, I have to get some gpa data on my hands because I don't know what a lot of these books go for. I think I'll take the ebay route on the books I don't want first....Intrepidxc wrote:I couldn't make out all the slabs in the pictures, but you will be able to sell most of those if you head over the Collectors Society forums.

If anyone is interested in any of these books let me know, I can take additional pictures/scans. What do you gringos get your tax refunds in the US? I figure I need to have some comics up on ebay before that....

Re: question about bulk buys...
I was in your boat when I first saw the list, I almost blew my load when I saw the list with Marvel Premiere 15 & Doctor Strange, but the horror books to the seller is his coup de gras, he paid over $800 for one of those house of mystery books. He really tried to tell me how hard it is to find these in high grade, one thing I did agree with was seeing gold key books in 9.4/9.6 is almost unheard of.Elveen wrote:Amazing eye appeal.

Re: question about bulk buys...
I'd be interested in the MP 15, but not at current market prices. That was a $200-300 book two years ago. I guess I should've bought then.

Re: question about bulk buys...
You know what's crazy is the buyer paid $170 with shipping for that book in 2006, and the doctor strange was 2 bucks cheaper!400yrs wrote:I'd be interested in the MP 15, but not at current market prices. That was a $200-300 book two years ago. I guess I should've bought then.
Just goes to show up how much some key issues can take off, I'm most likely going to list the doc. strange within the next 48 hours on ebay, that book alone would represent about a third of my cost.
House of Mystery 174 he paid $1000 Canadian in 2006, crazy eh? I think I'm gonna keep the MP 15....

Re: question about bulk buys...
Sure, I'll shoot you a pm. All the FF books, the DR. Strange (only because it goes for crazy money), The SGT Furys and Sandman #1 I'm definitely selling. The rest I haven't decided, but for now the Iron Fist books and Dracula books are untouchable.Intrepidxc wrote:I'd be interested in the FF44 if you want to sell it.
I should also point out that some of these look to be pedigree books. Some are labelled at the top "File Copies" and "Don Rosa (?) Collection". It also seems some books might have had shaken-comic book syndrome? I think the Sgt Furys look to be in poorer grade than the label, I will show up front photos so you guys can see them. Luckily it doesn't seems like the big books have this issue....

Re: question about bulk buys...
Just checked out a collection of a girl that inherited her dad's collection. 500 approximately comics from mostly the 70s although some 60s, and 80s. None of these were boarded, although they were all bagged (some in two a bag), but a lot of them are in pretty decent shape (F- on average). A ton of all the popular Marvel (and some DC) titles, many ASM in the 100s (129 was in there), X-Men in the 100s (Byrne, earlier issues, issues in the 90s), a bunch of Hulks (180 was there, 181 was there and I almost cried when I saw it, big piece missing on the cover). I saw a few other keys there in low grade, like Dr. Strange 169 (vg/vg-), the guardians of the galaxy cover, 1st darkseid. Plus a bunch of Thor, Caps...not sure what to offer her, I was thinking around 3k Canadian. It's more than what I would normally go, but she could really use the money so I feel for her...

Re: question about bulk buys...
I try not to get too emotional about these things. Most of the collections I buy have some sort of emotional component to the seller. I always offer a fair price, but not a retail price.
A guy here just inherited an amazing low grade Solver Marvel collection. Really needs the money. Wants $6K. It's probably fair at $2K. I want it, but I just can't do that price.

Re: question about bulk buys...
Well it has less to do with emotional attachment, more to do with needs. She lives in a relatively dumpy apartment (by Ottawa Standards), and clearly could use the money. I here what you're saying....what would you guys offer in my shoes? 2500 Canadian is about 2k USD.nycjadie wrote:I try not to get too emotional about these things. Re: question about bulk buys...
I've seen a low grade (.5) Hulk 181 sell here for $350. I would imagine $2500 would not be outrageous, but honestly I'd probably be in the US$1500 range based on what I know. There needs to be some meat on the bone for you. But, if there are some really nice key books, I could see going higher.

Alright thanks, I respect your opinion. I guess now that I've been looking for collections lately, and have multiple opportunities to buy comics, I can afford to be somewhat picky.nycjadie wrote:I've seen a low grade (.5) Hulk 181 sell here for $350. Don't listen to me. I don't know anything, but I have managed a profit on my collections, while building boxes of keys and valuable issues.

Re: question about bulk buys...
Thought I would share this story. A woman approached me through Craigslist about selling some comics. I emailed her back and forth for a week, we came to a low end price, sight unseen. Night before I am to meet her, she sends me her name and address in a trailer park. I Google it, as I typically don't meet people at their homes. This is what I found:
http://ow.ly/LrMq5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Needless to say, I called it off. To be fair, I also found her active on storage auction forums, but I wasn't going to chance it over some cheap books.

Re: question about bulk buys...
She was writing exams and said she would get back to me in a few weeks. I'm looking at a small collection in a few hours (probably crap), as well as going back to a friend of mine that has some nice books. I didn't get any screaming deals on his collection the last purchase, but his books are nearly all keys, and some of it is in really, really good shape (he is a collector after all). I'm swinging by there this evening to take a glance at the rest of his stuff. There were books I was interested in before (moore swamp thing run, caliber presents #1 in NM shape), but he has other books I didn't even look at (daredevil miller, dc comics presents full-run, TMNT, a bunch of 70s magazines, etc). I might make a bulk deal, but before the last time I approached him he wasn't even considering selling stuff before, now I think he might be more flexible on purchasing everything as I think he's done with comics. What kind of bulk prices do you offer for people that have pretty much no drek, and everything is in solid NM condition?nycjadie wrote:GGSAE - Did you get them?GGSAE wrote:Alright thanks, I respect your opinion. Re: question about bulk buys...
I offer premium on NM stuff (premium being more than cheap bulk rate). Sometimes, I still get it pretty cheap, but I do pay more for those pristine comics, since I like to slab them. The non-Valiant slabs pay for my Valiant slabs. That's how I fund my Valiant slab collection.
