I put together my Whacko run this way as well. Lots of patience, but over time they all end up in the bargain bins.
Man oh man....X-Factor #63-69 have some of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ART I have EVER seen. I bought the splash page to #66 for $50....sold it for $75. Should never have sold it, BUT.....it had no X-Factor members....
What was on it then?

Just a picture of a homeless guy in an alley being cornered by something Apocalyptic....

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it here, but I'm liking this Johns / Donner run on Action alot. I've NEVER really been into Supes at all. Sure, I collected Action for a while back in the day, but I never really liked the stories. I picked up the first Johns / Donner book just to check it out and every issue since then has been excellent. The book reads and looks like a movie. I think 844 was the first of the run, not sure, but I recommend it if you want to try something new/old.

If you liked the first two Superman movies you will like this, but I would recommend (and I can't beleive I am saying this) waiting for the trade. The shipping schedule is all goofed up right now. The next 2 or 3 issues will be fill ins before starting the story up again.

I really enjoyed Frightful. I liked twisting the idea of the Frightful Four to be a zombie FF rather than the established Frightful Four. Plus I loved the art.

Now God War was an overblown mess that followed, with Carey doing a poor Morrison imitation with a spawling story largely devoid of characterisation from the (too) massive guest cast, except maybe Ronan. There is more to characterisation thatn funky costumes and silly codenames. 6 issues? A more accomplished writer could have done it in 3 or 4 (Busiek in 1 in full-on Astro City mode methinks). Not good. Devils seems better though.

That was back when Portacio was drawing human figures and not alien heads with whacked out necks, lips and eyes. His art started going haywire during Heroe's Reborn, IMO and has just kind of drifted from there. Some of the Wetworks stuff is awful. I either love Portacio's art or am terribly dispointed in it.

I've got a really great limited print of the Prometheum Armor by Portacio. It's my hope one day that I get Chen to draw a companion piece to it for me using the early vol. 3 armor that he designed. They'd look fantastic side by side.

Ya think that Sean would be willing to do a companion piece to this for me?

For the absolute pinnacle of Portacio art, check out Uncanny #281-283. Especially the back cover to #281.

I have several of the DC Digests and have thought about trying to pick up more of them. I never had any of the Treasury editions, but I do remember seeing the digsts at the grocery store checkout isle next to TV Guide.

Magazine box and b&b for those? I have a lot of magazine sized Iron Man stuff all bagged and boarded that way. I'm pretty sure there are magazine boxes out there, no?

Treasuries are too big for a magazine box, but I think they do make special boxes that can hold the treasuries. I think they're the ones that people who collect Life Magazine use.

Anyone know where these books can be found ?

And now that there is some info in this thread, I think I would like to put an entire list together of all these large books. Anyone have a list put together AND does anyone have line on getting any of these books cheap ? I remember having the Star Wars ones when I was a kid and ALWAYS wanting some of the others I could see in advertisements when I was young but I could NEVER find them.
