After further review some of his books are in the VF range, but he has a ton of good stuff...I offered him 1k for everything, not sure if he'd take it.

Didn't get a response here, lol...hopefully he'll sell me the caliber presents #1 and I didn't completely insult him.
Update on that girl and her collection, she reposted it as 1100 comics? Strange, I thought there was only 500 or so and she told me she sold the ASM 129 and the beat-up Hulk 181 (said a guy convinced her it was for her son, is that something you say? haha). Anyways, I'm waiting to here back from her on price and a partial list, she's asking 5k for the 1100 (if there are 1100 there), but if she sold off a number of the key books I would be nowhere near there. I might go 2k still, we'll see.....I have two other collections I'm seeing next week, so there's lots of good books out there...

Last weekend I paid $560 for over 2K books. Super easy buy. It's mostly early 90s, in amazing condition, and a few golden age thrown in.

I won't be able to review them closely for several weeks with our move and work travel, but there are some amazing Valiant keys in there that are 9.8 candidates. I just need to slab 5 books to make it worth my while. Lots of Spiderman as well. Oh, and 4 Man of Steel 17, but probably F to VF condition, with the 18s being NM+. I hot really lucky on this one as he approached me and I couldn't get out to see him more 10 days. Usually, I have to pounce especially fast on these things.

All moderns, my friend. What are you looking for? I'm sure you have all of the Venom, Carnage AM, etc.

I'll have to check my list. I need way more than I have. Actually I have far more Silver/Bronze ASM than I have Modern.

Let me know. You might have to follow-up with me. I've got so much going on right now that I won't dig through these until late next month. Even then, I'm sure to forget about your list. You may need to ping me.

I'm surprised someone would come up and offer you a bulk deal at 25 cents/pop....very few and far between, I usually have to beat someone over a stick to get them down to the 50 cents-$1 range.

In fairness, I think he quoted $800-900 before I came out. I offered him $500 on the spot. He asked for $50 more, and I gave hi $60 as I didn't have change. I probably could have squeezed him for less, but with so many pre-Unity books in NM+, I didn't want to haggle too hard. Plus, he had the usual early 90's popular books in amazing shape (Infinity Guantlet, etc.). He knew what they were worth, but admitted not wanting to deal with the hassle.

He was clearly a collector of many things, at the look of his garage...

I need to get in the habit of getting some kind of offer in advance of visits...nothing worst than being the first guy in the door trying to tell people that they won't get $1-3 for bulk deals of copper/modern books.

LOL - I don't know if it helps or hurts, honestly. My time is super short these days, so I don't like driving 30 minutes to see some guy with an unrealistic idea of what his books are worth. I often ask what price they have in mind early on in the process, sometimes multiple times, before I see them. I think it scares some folks off, but at least we have some idea of expectations. I also offer to pay more if the condition is really great, etc., or the quantity is different. I think it can sometimes be more compelling to make an offer in person and provide the cash. It's hard to say no to a deal when cash is right in front of you.

the only "bulk buy" i've done was a long box. going through the box i realized the guy must have buzzed his head directly over the box. facepalm

Well the last several deals fell through, but I did grab a cheap lot lately of several hundred comics (4-500) for $200. Mostly a lower/mid grade lot, but there was a nearly complete run of Transformers (all the last issues), and about 130 Batman comics (100 from Detective/Batman, so that will go a long way to working on my runs). There were a few semi key issues as well, not terrible but the price was cheap and the guy had held them for me when I first contacted him.

about 3 months ago i hit a 3000 collection or so
paid 800 which was high but he let me look through it and it had a full nm run and spiderman 250 and up
so it paid out right there and i kept some of the stuff i wanted
got a invinible one i kept and a small stack of wd
it relly depends on what is in the lot
if its old dealer stock be weary but collections are great usually light dups and popular titles aplenty

Wow! If $800 is high for 3000 decent books, I'm paying too much! Nice score!

This morning, I saw a guy at his apartment near work. Crazy story, but it's 9am, and he answers the door in revealing underpants and a muscle shirt. I peer inside, and there is guy porn all over the walls. OK. He invites me in and also see toys literally crammed into every crevice of the apartment. He is definitely a geek, albeit a quirky one.

Anyway, I didn't take his whole collection, but I was the first to see it and he let me cherry pick. For $50, I bought:

6 pre-unity
Marvel Star Wars 6-55ish, plus some if the later gard to get issues
ASM 252
Secret Wars 1-12
Some other minor key Thor, Spiderman and FF

He had a nearly full Run of Space Family Robinson, but I typically only buy high grade Gold Key. I left some minor keys there so he is not entirely screwed in selling the lot.

I'm happy with the buy, but honestly, I think he would have taken $40 or less.
