Anyone who beat me by $1 definitely got a good price. (Because I'm CHEAP!)Jay Tomio wrote:I wouldn't call it a moumental deal, but I think I got a fairly good price ($36) on a slabbed Dark Horse presents Fifth Anniversary that is the first Sin City appearance (or at least a very early one).

Where did you find all that at? ebay, bookstore?Brother J wrote:a boatload of Acclaim Shadowman for 50 cents each, including a complete set of Shadowman Vol. 2, Darque Passages, and Shadowman Vol. 3 (missing issue #6). The kicker was the Shadowman Vol.3 #2 was the Good, the Bad and the Ugly variant!

comic show, one of the guys that had a bunch of .50 cent boxes. The funny thing is when I first went through his stuff, the box with the Acclaim books was nowhere to be found. Later, another dealer left so he was able to move his cheap books from a barely lit corner of the room to a better lit table. I just happened to notice this new box because it stood out because it was only a half box where all the other boxes were long boxes. I almost crapped when I saw the GBU variant.Rufusharley wrote:Where did you find all that at? ebay, bookstore?Brother J wrote:a boatload of Acclaim Shadowman for 50 cents each, including a complete set of Shadowman Vol. 2, Darque Passages, and Shadowman Vol. 3 (missing issue #6). There was another guy at the show that had some VALIANT/Acclaim books, but he seemed to know the value of them because he had them priced accordingly. Actually a little higher than probably what they should have been.

It didn't look like he sold much of anything that show. His wall books were all overpriced. He did have 50% off of his prices in the books in boxes. I was debating whether or not to buy his two copies of Amazing Spidey #316 (I believe the first Venom cover) at $7.50 each, but each had small stresses, probably wouldn't have dropped them any lower than NM-, but I still passed.Daniel Jackson wrote:And I'll bet all his books are still collecting dust.Brother J wrote:There was another guy at the show that had some VALIANT/Acclaim books, but he seemed to know the value of them because he had them priced accordingly. it's always good to read posts like these, because it gives hope to the others that they can find good stuff at a con. that's how i felt at the Hero's con.Brother J wrote:a boatload of Acclaim Shadowman for 50 cents each, including a complete set of Shadowman Vol. 2, Darque Passages, and Shadowman Vol. 3 (missing issue #6). Yes, this is the first "official" Venom cover appearance, though it's ruined by sticking his head on #315. Ah well. Anyways, it's definitely a key, the second full appearance of Venom (#315 is just cameo), and a good buy....just not in NM- for $7.50 each.

I can't believe how much people are talking about this book after so many years.....

I don't think it's to much to believe that people want that book. For a lot of people the 80's and 90's will always be our golden age, and that is what we will look for when we collect. I know that I have no interest whatsoever in gold or silver age books because they are imo hokie and cheesy, and I don't care to much for the writing or drawing (for the most part--there are exceptions). I do love the mid 80's up to late 90's (when I quit collecting--and I didn't like a lot of Image) and that will be my golden age.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Good call.Brother J wrote: I was debating whether or not to buy his two copies of Amazing Spidey #316 (I believe the first Venom cover) at $7.50 each, but each had small stresses, probably wouldn't have dropped them any lower than NM-, but I still passed.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I had seen that and passed since I was spending money on the HC (which I just realized reprints the origin, and I have the SC already).slym2none wrote:Nothing huge in the deal category, but I hit this just for the Solar: Second Death TPB...

My thoughts exactly. It's coming across the entire country (CA to NC) and they better be in a box for that price - but Greg has the Solar: SD trade at $12 in the price guide and I paid a few cents less than that overall, so I'm not unhappy. I also don't have a VALIANT Era TPB (imagine that?) so that's a freebie in a sense.Daniel Jackson wrote:Shipping seems a little high, but still worth it for the second death trade.
