First off, there is no Super Mario #8. There is an Adventures of Super Mario 8 and a Nintendo Comics System 8, though.

So, which one is it and why is it a price variant? I think the Adventures issues were priced $1.50.
It was Adventures of Super Mario 8, cover priced at $1.50.
Since all my other Valiant Nintendo books are priced $1.95,
I was happy to pick up those books for under cover price.
Admittedly, I know very little about the pre-Hero Valiant books...
so I was happy to add the $1.50 book (with the newsprint paper)
to my small collection of otherwise $1.95 books.
I agree - finding these for sale cheap anywhere is very hard. The Adventures of SMB series all have paper covers with $1.50 cover prices. Series went up to #9. Not a variant, but a nice find anyway. 27 copies? Any nice ones? I'd be interested in anything that might grade out 9.6.

Not likely, the paper is off-white to tan at best, and I don't think "sharp corners" would apply to any copy. The dealer graded the "pack" as FN or less... but the copies aren't bad, just not great.

All three of us shed tears my man, it was emotional for me watching Knight put the badges from his uniform he wore in Afghanistan at the base of one of the drawings that children had done for their lost ones.

Thanks man... it was a VERY emotional moment for me. I can't even type anything about it right now... just not right now.

September 11th was a very tough day for everyone, especially those of us who live and work in and around the city. I lost a very good friend who was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time (Windows on the World Restaurant) for a breakfast meeting. My daughter's best friend's father was also killed in the attack.

Thankfully another close friend working on the 103rd floor of the second tower to be hit, ignored her boss' demand to remain at her desk after the first attack. She left the building and kept on going. She finally ended up 40 blocks to the North before realizing where she was and what had happened. I must say however, the fighter jets screaming overhead on their way over Mahattan just after the attacks was quite a sight. It made me proud to know there are those always at the ready to defend us!

Business brought me into Manhattan a few days later... the smoke and smell was still overwhelming. Awful be to exact.

I took my camera with me but at no point did it occur to me to snap any pictures. I was simply... overwhelmed and had THE hardest time keeping my emotions in check. I was 'ok' during the cab ride there but felt it slipping away. Once I was onground, I knew it would only be a matter of time... then I saw the drawings that children had made for their lost parent. I saw this one drawing can't remember exactly what is was of because I was drawn to the words... "I love you Daddy". For me it was over. I took out the set of patches that I wore on my uniform while in the the early days of Afghanistan (Special Forces, Ranger, Airborne tabs, SOCOM unit patch and the combat American flag) and placed them at the foot of where the children's drawings where I... paused for a moment, was barely able to say a few words to those that died there on September 11th and then had to make my abrupt departure from the area.

I just could not keep it together any longer...

If there are times during my duty day when I wonder for a second why I do what I have done or am currently doing....... I just remember that day. Once we got back to the Con, I noticed an American flag in the sunlight and I was dumbfounded for a moment on how beautiful the American flag is and what it stands for... and why I do what I do.

We attended a ComicCon and not one of us probably took a moment to think about the fact that it is very possible that any number of our troops was in harms way. Me included as I flipped through a few thousand issues of Batman or X-Men. But in that moment when I saw the flag, I appreciated all that I have, the country that is my home and the fact that we could actually HAVE a Valiant meeting full of great board members and former Valiant talents.

I didnt know anyone who perished in the 9/11 attacks but I didnt have to know any one of them to feel the way I did when Frank, Justin and I paid our respects...

Very well said Chris. I felt the same way when I went there on Saturday with my son. I was okay until I went down the stairs & saw those drawings...

All I could remember thinking was "how can all these people be so oblivious to these?" There were so many people getting on the subway there that didn't seem to even know where they stood. I realize they probably go through that route every day, but I just couldn't fathom being on that ground & not being moved... My son went into that part of our trip thinking he was just going to look "at a big hole," but when he saw me moved to tears by those drawings I think he started to "get it." He's only 9 & his memory of those events is far from complete, but I think he now understands a little better what used to stand in that "big hole" & how many we lost that day...

On Sunday morning we were lucky enough to catch the early ferry over to Liberty Island before we left for home. In it's own way the Statue of Liberty was as moving for me as the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center moved me in a very sad way & the Statue of Liberty really made me proud to be an American. I was really surprised just how great it was to see that statue in person.

Other than those 2 stops my son & I stopped off to see the Empire State Building & Times Square. They were both neat, but not nearly as moving. I am REALLY glad I found a way to get to NY & I'll always remember sharing my first visit there with my son. My only complaint is with myself... I wish I'd planned a little better & a little earlier so I could have spent some more time getting to know you fellas better. I am happy to have met most everyone who went to the show, but I would have liked to hang out after hours a bit to share a brew (or ten)! I promise not to be a stranger & hopefully rectify that at the next get-together. Cheers! ~Pete

I have over 30 pics to share (and a few I didn't bother with - why exactly was Dino taking a pic of Brian's crotch with my camera?) and I don't know which to post first - I have shots of us at the con, on the street, at the various restaurants (the Triple Crown shots have lots of former VALIANT people in them) I have funny signs, I have Frank's updated beer-pic, Craig's new avs (yes, plural) - what the hell should I post???

:D

Um, no - I value my life. :D

Besides, I had to erase a few pics to make room for possibly better pics, and yours was one of 'em. Sorry!
