I have no insight into VEI's relaunch strategy but so far, I think they are on the right track. If the X-O original material "fixes" X-O 68, then I think they will have hit a home run to follow up on the Harbinger HC. Here is an idea of what I think would work from here on out.

1. Continue to release HCs until the VIP thing is resolved. I think starting with Harbinger was right and X-O was the best next choice because you have to fix X-O 68 to relaunch the Valiant universe. I would think Rai would be a great choice for the next HC because he is another original character and there are plenty of opportunities for new material related to Rai.

Eventually, I think it would be great if all the pre-Unity material was collected in HC format so it would be available and affordable for the new Valiant readers. I have posted elsewhere that I consider the pre-Unity body of work to be among the finest ever produced by any comic company. So, I hope to see Magnus, Solar and Shadowman HCs down the road too.

2. Once the comics can be published, I like the idea of picking up the titles 15 years later. You could eventually fill in the missing periods with "The Lost Years" type publications.

When I read posts like this I get all worked up and excited and it makes me want to be reading new Valiant comics NOW.

I'll have to stick with my reading of the VH1 for now.

I would like to see the chaos effect be the last items in continuity and then jump to present day (like WBC suggested). If we dont go past unity we lose bloodshot, armories, master darque, etc.

I do like the idea of HC, but I will say..... 2 years of HCs.....

I am sure DNV is doing all they can to "fix" whatever the issue is that nees fixing.

But here is the thing..... if they can give us 8 pages of new story..... why not more. Maybe they cannot do a full re-launch. But hows about this....

In the XO HC, don't do 8 pages of Ken's backstory.... but instead give us The Valiant Universe #1

it would be a full comic book laying the gorund work for the re-launch.

Explain where they are going to start: after Unity, XO #68, in between.... 15 years later. They could lay out the entire universe for us. Re-introduce characters, introduce new characters. This just sounds like Valiant.

Release 4 or 5 HCs in the next 15 months... but in each HC give us TVU #1-#5. Then when they are ready to begin with monthly titles.... the groundwork is laid......

Also it would make the new HCs more desirable and marketable.

What you dudes think?

I for one am comfortable with this series of "Secrets of the VALIANT Universe" stories we're getting.

I like the idea of new and old readers alike getting a chance to not only experience the original stories, but also getting a little extra.

It's like DVD versions of the original movies with a deleted scenes section.

Yes. The only difference is that I already have the movies on DVD.

I will support VEI all I can... but maybe they could give us a bit more in terms of new material. :D

How much better would the Harada story have been if it was longer? That is all I am saying.

They left us wanting more, which is the mark of a great pushe... er, I mean publisher.

Now we eagerly await to see the next new Harbinger story to find out what's going to happen, and hopefully all the new eight page stories in the upcoming HCs will have the same effect.

Expected Print Runs

Is there any Hard Information on the "Print Runs" that they did for the Harbinger HC, and the Upcoming X-O HC?
I'm wondering what their strategy is for the overall Qty. of each HC they plan on releasing?
They must have done some type of Market Research to approximate the demand they expect. I'm sure they don't want un-purchased HC. They need to make $$ and not have any leftover so they can continue their Re-Conquest of the Comic Industry :D

Aren't hcs in the long run easier to sell than monthly comics because they can stay on a shelf for much longer?

Feels more like a vhs to dvd with extras analogy to me.

I think they are meant to be continually in print so there is not a finite print run.

Good question.

Is the "8 pages" confirmed?

The 8 pages is a tease, yes, but frankly, I'm having a hard time justifying buying books for 8 new pages. Especially when most of the issues are already collected in trades.

On the other hand, if they did an A&A hardcover collecting the entire BWS run, I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat since they haven't been done trades before. The Harby and the X-O trades, I can buy for $.25, but there aren't any A&A trades.

I don't believe anything was said in regards to the story's length. It may well be 8 pages, but I think that's just an assumption from the Harbinger story's length.
