A differing opinion, MUST be a shill, right???Blood of Heroes wrote:So wrunow isn't allowed to have his own opinion now huh? Some of you guys need to calm the *SQUEE* down.
I have met Mark G. (wrunow's real name) and can assure anyone he is in no way affiliated with VEI except maybe as a VALIANT fan that wants to see comics produced ASAP.
Like Mark said... who is this "SolarGod" again?

I’m all about pre-Unity anyway, and to me that means Shooter. I guess I’m just hoping for lighting to strike twice.Elveen wrote:After I was always more interested in: Shadowman, A&A, Gilly, X-O, Darque, Toyo, ect.
Solar was needed to start the Uni, and the beginning stories of Magnus are brilliant. But after that.... not really interested.
Like many of you my favorite titles were not the Gold Key licensed properties. I’d much rather see X-O, Shadowman, Rai, Eternal Warrior, and A&A back in publication first but Shooter’s new universe is better than no universe.

With regards to the GK3 (/GK4) and the prospective DH vs VEI universes, to be honest as long as something gets published somewhere I'll be happy.
Let me qualify: someone mentioned that it could be interesting to see DH build a new comic book universe around the GK 4 (plus there are some additional characters to bring in - eg Dr Spektor). Maybe I was making a big assumption, but I had assumed that it woul always be the case that DH planned an integrated universe of some sort around the properties.
It has been apparent for some time (and hereI dispute VEI's assertions in the court papers, and so this is not fact, just my opinion) that the GK3 were not going to play a part in the foundation of a new VALIANT. That was okay to me too. Why? Well to bring in new readers (vital to go beyond the regular 100 or so posters here if market success is desirable), then a soft reboot has always made the most logical sense to me (sacriligeous as it may seems to some). It would clear out latter-publication VALIANT problems and allows for the books to launch either at the start or in media res, so to speak. The point is that without the GK3, there were some great characters to build titles around, even without considering the 41st century. What I could see (again opinion, and again I do not take VEI's assertions at face value I am afraid) was that there was enough for a new VALIANT universe.
Now if there had been concurrent DH/GK4 and VALIANT universes, both starting from the ground up, I would have been very happy. It may have been the final nail in the coffin for my collecting of many 'big two' titles. However for some time only one line has looked likely. Now that looks a little less likely (but still more probable than the other line ever seeing the light of day any time soon).
Getting back to the point of the thread: I buy into universes generally, not characters as a primary consideration. With a notion that DH were hopefully planning a GK-based universe, then I was sold on the idea. If VEI published sans the GK3, I was also on board. So it isn't about the characters for me, but the universes they inhabit. Which means solid storytelling, art and creative direction/vision. Looks like I may only to get to visit one of those two potential new universes next year.

Re: Solar, Magnus, etc., outside the Valiant Universe
I'm of the opposite opinion. I was a fan of Magnus and Turok long before Valiant, and if they hadn't been a part of the original Valiant Universe (along with Solar, to a lesser extent), I might not have given it a try. I remember the first time I saw the cover to Magnus #12 and I was hooked. I'm definitely looking forward to new stories with these characters.depluto wrote:Maybe it's just me, but I really could give a rat's *SQUEE* to read new stories for these characters outside of the Valiant Universe. I never gave a crap about any of those old Gold Key stories, the only thing that made them interesting to me was their context inside the VU from the 1990s.
So it doesn't really matter to me whether or not DH produces new books with those characters, even if Shooter is the writer. I would much rather see them back in the VU or not at all.
On the other hand, I think what's left of the Valiant Universe is significantly weakened without Magnus and Solar. I was never a big Shadowman/Darque fan, so I would be interested in Harbinger and possibly Rai and X-O. I guess it would be possible to tell new stories without Magnus and Solar, but it would feel a bit incomplete to me.

To be fair, I was the first one who used the word shill in this thread. I used the word in the sense that wrunow appears to endorse VEI at every turn with his posts about the subject, even to the point of saying that Shooter was "stolen away". Like I said, I understand this is because of his friendship with Dinesh and he is entitled to feel that way. Again, we have no idea about what has happened, just VEI's version. To some of you, their word appears to be good as gold. To others, there is reason to doubt them.slym2none wrote:A differing opinion, MUST be a shill, right???Blood of Heroes wrote:So wrunow isn't allowed to have his own opinion now huh? Having acquired a few of the Dark Horse Magnus collections, I think while some of the writing and pacing are dated, that the concept is a great one.
Given how much I enjoyed Shooters recent run on Legion up until it was greatly shortened and he had to fit a 6 issue arc into 2 issues, I am interested to see what he does with Magnus again. The ties to the Valiant Universe are easy enough to ignore, I mean it still guy *SQUEE* *SQUEE* up in the future.
But I do hope the Dark Key editions drop the battle tunic.

Have you seen Samson's look?Daniel Jackson wrote:To me, that battle tunic is just as iconic as Superman's tights. I hope they keep that look, white boots and all.ncameron wrote: But I do hope the Dark Key editions drop the battle tunic.

And an eye-patch!

I would like to see some general updates to the tunic—like Marvel did with Ultimate Captain America—but the basic look has to stay recognizably Magnus. I hated all of his later Valiant uniforms. The Giffen one was the worst.Daniel Jackson wrote:To me, that battle tunic is just as iconic as Superman's tights. Since if VEI cant use Magnus or Solar but still have Torque and Phil they can use them in place and still have a decent VALIANT universe,I dont know if it would work or how fans would respond but as long as X-O was still there I would still buy the books.I was never much of a Turok Fan though.
I still hope that this lawsuit will work itself out Shooter and VEI will patch things up and we get Shooter's vision of VALIANT,i know its a small dream but i still hope it would come true.
