400yrs wrote:When reading EW, the issues usually start with 2-3 pages of EW in the past. Usually, it's a significant event that Gilad experiences. For instance in issue #18, he ran into Judas right after he received the 30 pieces of silver.

Often, these opening pages in the past are my favorite part of the book. It's nearly always interesting. I'm actually a bit bummed when we come back to the present and it's not much more than EW fighting Darque or his henchmen or some other villains.

I think going back to the past is a great story-telling mechanism that shouldn't be restricted to only the first 2-3 pages of the issue. If you look at some of the truly great recent Marvel books like Captain America or Immortal Iron Fist, they are not afraid to use the past throughout the book.

The problem with EW in *VALIANT (1991-1996)* for me is that his past is intriguing, but in the present, he's only a fighter and not much else. Not a thinker who uses his past experience brilliantly..... in fact, he rarely ever mentions anything from his past in the current.

If VEI can find a writer who can use the past and write him as a strong character in the present, they may have something exciting. I'm surprised this wasn't picked up as a movie option rather than Harbinger.

The coloring should be a bit different as well looking at the past. Marvel often uses different artists and colorist for past sequences.
Agree 100% --- the flashbacks were excellent.

The first year it knocked Jaws 3D out of the top spot...

So, back on topic, did anyone notice this "effect" used in the Cinderella story from fabletown with love or whatever? The Fables story, I mean.

I don't recall 3D being used in that story. Use of flashbacks, yes

I just read it. There was a bit of flashbacks, but nothing really in the same vein as EW at all.

Yup.

The first movie was ok. Avoid the others. From the episodes I've seen, until the last 2 seasons, the tv series was outstanding.

It seemed to me that each chapter began with a flashback to her past that related to the present. Plus she fought Nazis. The whole thing was a blatant rip-off of EW!

Ok, jk about the last part, but I thought it was very similar.

xodacia did you read Cinderella with your Valiant Vision glasses on? :P
