Maybe that's why I wasn't crazy about it. I never cared for Ernie Colon's work on Magnus either.greg wrote:Ribic's cover art reminds me of Ernie Colon's splash pages in Magnus 13-14.

Not that that one cover dampens my excitement for this relaunch! Nord's pencils look amazing!
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I'm not a big Ribic fan either, but this is better than most of the stuff I've seen of his. It could be the subject matter, though!

Two quick things that jump out: #1) So there will be 2 covers to X-O #1 and 2) X-O #1 will come out before FCBD
Did they mention two covers for X-O 1? I must've missed that.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.
Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
It's under the artwork ... it refers to one of the pencil drawings as "Cary Nord's pencils for his cover for "X-O" #1" .... then add in the painted cover by Esad Ribic and you have an original cover and a variant.
I'm not crazy about this idea. A lot of fans and retailers still have a sour taste in their mouth even after all these years regarding Valiant's variants, chromiums, etc. I think it would of been wiser to just have one cover for this launch title.

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
Thanks for pointing out where the Nord cover is mentioned. I don't mind the two covers idea, as I know Valiant needs good numbers. Plus, I dig the Ribic cover. I see your point, though.Crow331 wrote:It's under the artwork ... it refers to one of the pencil drawings as "Cary Nord's pencils for his cover for "X-O" #1" .... then add in the painted cover by Esad Ribic and you have an original cover and a variant.

Whoa! I'm so excited I can't calm down enough to actually read the interview
I LOVE the cover. Muted tones everywhere except on X-O, really draws the eye in. So Sci-Fi, so Bad A$$, so X-O!!!
I always thought X-O would make a perfect Hollywood movie. Can't go wrong with Venditti, who's already written a small Top Shelf sci-fi comic that was made into a Bruce Willis movie.
Nord is a good choice as well. Conan was very popular when he was drawing it, so fan carryover might be big. Looks like very solid storytelling too

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
I like that Venditti claims that he never really read any Marvel or DC. That should help him, as the first writer for V3 (Valiant version 3.0?) not to retread on any already used Marvel or DC story.
However, no comics as a child? What a sad childhood.

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
I have to agree that the idea of multiple covers doesn't have me very excited. If they don't overdo it (like how Amazing Spider-man was doing two covers for practically every issue for a while and I think Dark Horse and IDW pretty much do the same), then I guess it won't be so bad. I'd like to be a completist with the new Valiant line, but I may have to pick and choose with multiple covers.Crow331 wrote:It's under the artwork ... it refers to one of the pencil drawings as "Cary Nord's pencils for his cover for "X-O" #1" .... then add in the painted cover by Esad Ribic and you have an original cover and a variant.

If they are available to all, then great. It's when I have to dump money after some longshot that gets crazy. As soon as it gets to the 1/5 variation, retailers, buyers, and hoarders all want to see part of the action. Be careful!etos45 wrote:I have to agree that the idea of multiple covers doesn't have me very excited.
