Re: How parallel to VH1 canon should VEI write their stories
The only book that could be described as "retelling old stories" would be X-O. Unfortunately it has the distinction as the launch book, thus is more issues into the new universe and therefore has the most focus upon it.
In hindsight, knowing how the story has unfolded I think I wouldn't have led off with X-O if I was making the decision. I'd have lead with Harbinger.
That said, I like that VEI is keeping certain elements from the original universe but those are more or less "easter eggs" to the older readers but not at all reselling the same stories.

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

I think the stories should start to veer off into their own thing soon..
Much like how The Office US used to use the Plots/Stories from the first few The Office UK shows, then later just made up their own.

The reason to re-use these characters is to take advantage of their previous incarnation.
I mean it would be like taking Superman and making him Blue and White and electricity based...

Hey, look! I have a podcast!
And a Website!

If I win an argument, it doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm a better arguer.
In addition, I'm right.

the mid to late 90's after Supes death, were not good story years.
