He had a gold too, but I already got one of those for free!

I had a question, when looking at grading something like this, do they grade the sleeve as well, or just the book?

My book is in almost perfect condition, just an indent near the top left of the spine.
yeah, I was gonna ask Carter about that since he submitted his for grading.

I am really hoping it's just the book, my case was really dinged up, but the book with a press, should grade out to a 9.8! :D

The case would be a VF at best!!!

The sleeve means nothing they just took the book for grading.

It seems that most of the cases are banged up from the people Ive been talking to. I pray Valiant gets a handle on the condition many of their books are getting out there.

I'm kind of surprised by this. If you went to sell it, wouldn't someone say "hey where is the sleeve? This book is not complete without out?". How does CGC grade one of the "bagged" books from the 90's like Death of Superman?? I wouldn't buy it without the bag personally.

You won't buy it bagged and CGC'd. All bags are removed, all loose items are excluded.

Yeah, I have seen an improvement in the condition of the Variants of late with the thicker covers, but I am not sure if this is universal or just my lcs getting good batches. I was surprised at how the sleeve was damaged on the black, but it did its job protecting the book. The only imperfections I see on the book are a couple of very slight cover indents and a spine/corner indentation where it looks like the paper just comes off the top right corner weird.

Besides all that jazz:

The book as art is an absolute beauty and the style is way cool. I carefully look it over, put it away, sit down, and then immediately want to go back and look it over again - it just has so much eye appeal. The artwork is stunning.

Might be my favorite thing VEI has put out so far.

who knows. anyway I got the Harby #4 variant for 4 bucks so I certainly can't complain :D
one store did get it, they have it put aside for a valued customer who apparantly spends 3000 a month on getting 1 copy of every comic that month. Is there really that many books to order 1 of to spend 3000 dollars?
I also managed a variant of Harbinger 4 however I was told it was a pullbox variant.
Yeah, the Harby variant this month is not a 1:20
oh well it's all good. I just wanted to read it anyway.

Is the actual name of the book: Shadowman: Black? Or is it Valiant: Black?

If it is Valiant: Black... could this be the start of a series of books with this design?

I think it was only referred to as Valiant Black up to a point to keep the contents a secret. Now that its out there I'm probably going to start referring to it Shadowman Black. Makes more sense anyway.

Gonna fix the Subject line for this thread, too...

There's also something very strange going on here overall. I visited 3 shops today with only one hit. Surprisingly, the largest one said they didn't get one, and it wasn't on their list either, and they have no idea why they wouldn't have gotten one. And I know they order a ton of Valiant cause they got an X-O Gold this week. They're one of the top 5 largest shops in the state of Texas.

But my smaller local shop got one. They order some Valiant every month but not a ton. They've only qualified for a 1:20 variant maybe 2 or 3 times.

What gives? This "top 500" thing doesn't seem entirely true.

I have no idea, one thing though is that I'm even more patient to hold off going after variants (especially the non-1:20s) that go for bigger money, because I think they'll come down once the buzz wears off...

No, it's not you, the variants are much better with the thicker cover stock.

I don't come even remotely that close. At my most, it was about $350 a month.

I trimmed my pull list mightily. My DCBS order dropped from $313 to $215 in one month.

lol yeah unless he's just a super fanboy millionaire which i think must be the case. I was thinking about that amount and he HAS to buying like every small press book + every HC and TPB to spend that much. And i'm thinking the spend is slightly exaggerated.
