Nice way to sneak a character in without us knowing. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have planned.

+1. I like following Valiant on all of the social media and such, but would have been much happier if this was a surprise I found out while reading the book tomorrow.BugsySig wrote:That would be me...would have been really cool to create buzz after the book came out. Re: Dr. Mirage!
Yeah that's a good point. It's a difficult thing to avoid. The whole industry is geared towards spoiling books before they're released in order to market them and drum up hype. I don't even read Batman Inc. but I knew Damian was going to die in #8 before it even happened. That's kind of messed up. It'd be nice if the industry found a way to promote new books or big events happening in those books without spoiling their contents.chriskay99 wrote:+1. I get emails from VEI's marketing department, so it's kinda hard to avoid spoilers when I've got my Gmail synced with my iPhone, so I get an instant notification at 9:17 am that reads "Dr. Mirage Lives Again in Shadowman #5."

I like it.
Not much to really base an opinion on yet, but those preview pages look pretty slick.

Wasn't really a fan of the original series, so not really bothered by the changes. Still, I will wait and see how the concept is executed (in the end I think execution is far more important than concept). One thing I don't understand is why her last name isn't Mirage? How exactly is she Dr. Mirage if her name is Dr. Fong...?

Re: Dr. Mirage!
This looks very promising to me from the brief description & that single panel. The costume design looks absolutely stunning, IMHO!
Very cool to see the gender change, and as others have said, potentially for a LEAD character! It would be very cool to see if they play the same-sex marriage card on the character as well, I think that would be great for Valiant to go through with it.
I was never a big fan of the original title, although I did read it for the first 8 issues back in the day... and yet, it is still another VH1 concept that has huge potential with some re-imagining. I'm all for this version.

the original Dr. Mirage was awful, I am so glad that its a different version of DM or at least for now, who knows maybe she meets up with Darque and he makes her a ghost sorta and she falls for some guy. Then I would drop the book.

Re: Dr. Mirage!
I think Hwen's real last name was Fong. Mirage was a name he used for his paranormal investigation business.SJS4 wrote:Wasn't really a fan of the original series, so not really bothered by the changes. Re: Dr. Mirage!
I just re-read the first four issues of the original series last weekend. Dr. Mirage's costume is pretty awful but overall I liked the story. Like H.A.R.D. Corps, it has a great concept.LABRADORIAN wrote:the original Dr. Mirage was awful, I am so glad that its a different version of DM or at least for now, who knows maybe she meets up with Darque and he makes her a ghost sorta and she falls for some guy. That being said, every time I look at the preview images for this new Dr. Mirage, I feel myself getting more and more convinced that this gender-swapped version of the character is going to be great.

Re: Dr. Mirage!
Got my Shadowman 5's today. Just a great book, love the art, it's my favorite VEI title.
Unfortuanately, there is basically zero chance at a pullbox in high grade. The cover stock is very lightweight, solid black and shows everything.
The other two variants are much better - love them both.

Re: Dr. Mirage!
Valiant keeps pressing my nostalgia button. I was glad to see this and I didn't even read The Second Life of Dr. Mirage. In a way I'm more excited about seeing the characters I was indifferent to back then since the other re-imaginings have gone so well. I now want to go through my old issues and find characters I didn't care for and petition for their return.

Re: Dr. Mirage!
I'm looking forward to this. Not a huge fan of the outfit - I like the colors and how it works with the rest of the Shadowman look, but the fit makes her look like a bimbo - which is not what I want to see in a strong female lead.
Actually, she kind of reminds me of Halle Berry as Storm. Blah. (Don't get me wrong. Berry is lovely, but it's been done. Besides, mohawked Storm is the best Storm ever.)

More than anything, her outfit looks like something out of Tron to me.

Sme new details from Graphic Policy:
In this new iteration, Dr. Mirage is the stage name of Shan Fong, a one-time television investigator of paranormal phenomena whose unique abilities make her an invaluable asset to police departments around the world. During the upcoming “Darque Reckoning” storyline – beginning on March 6th in Shadowman #5 – Fong steps into the world of Jack Boniface and the Shadowman after discovering that no matter where she goes, the dead only have one thing to say: “Master Darque is coming.”
