What's with all the dislike of Matt Kindt, I think he's an outstanding write and has given us = Rai (amazing), Divinity (brilliant), The Valiant (great), NINJAK (nuff said) and Unity is awesome as well. His work has been excellent and valiant is lucky to have him.

I think the negativity is from a very small minority

There was some negative posts about The Valiant ... but when a poll was created about it - it showed that only 3 hated it and around 90% liked it or loved it.

I think the overwhelming majority here - love what Kindt has brought to the VEI universe.

I do have my issues with Kindt. I think he has many brilliant ideas - but the execution at times isn't great.

I think the lack of execution at times could just be the result of doing 10 books a month

so some people make excuses and exceptions for him others (three others) don't

While agree with the masses that Dysart is pretty good at what he does, recent Harbinger stuff (I have yet to read Imperium, which I hear is pretty awesome) is not as good as the first year of Harbinger. I'm getting a little tired of Harada.

no really i get it. my comment comes off harsh. some people we give more breaks to than others because we enjoy in general what they do. for some reason kindt has lost that favor with me. he writes a lot of vei books so the opportunity to disagree comes up a lot. Warren Simons: "Sorry, we already have a character that has that as his unique ability in the form of Darpan."

Kind-T: "Huh. Okay well anyway, in issue #2, Divinity is able to defeat all of the members of Unity by making them see and believe that their worst fears are happening."

Warren Simons, waving his arms: "Can you see me? Do you hear the words coming out of of my mouth? The answer is no, and you can't use the same trick in issues that are being published within thirty days of each other. Think of something else."

And Darpan doesn't show someone their greatest fear, but makes them relive their worst moment in life to the Nth degree. Again, similar power usage, but not identical.

to be fair I don't think he's that bad. Just bad editorial decisions that were bungled pretty good.

But she is also a teenage girl

She was a teenage girl teaming up with a bunch of experienced ruthless killers

Kindt's take on Unity is a twist on the tropes of Superhero team-up books

I didn't want her fitting in. I think her character (as written by Dysart) would have constantly been calling them out for being murderous monsters to the point they would have either kicked her out, or realized they were monsters.

I disagree that she came off as stupid

I thought it was a good continuation from what Dysart shows in Faith #0.

She makes a bold choice to join Unity

And she makes an even bolder choice to quit - quitting says it all about how brave she is... I think it would be a bit of an over-characterization if she started calling them out/calling them monsters ...

I think followup stories will be important - as she gets more experience as a "superhero" - maybe she will call them out - or maybe she will be just as brutal as they are - in time. But I think her portrayal was in line with where she is now.

I'm going to agree with all three points:

1) I am enjoying his stuff.

2) Seeing what happened to Kay, I'm worried he plays a little too loose with other people's stuff.

3) That being said, I think he had Faith acquit herself and stay true to character. She couldn't abide by what she saw, called them on it and left the group.

I agree. I just read Rai #1-#8 in one sitting and thought it was phenomenal. And I'm really enjoying Divinity thus far as well. I like the work he's done for Valiant far more than what he did at DC.
