I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of 'filler' if someone finds it entertaining and enjoyable. Isn't that the whole point of entertainment media in the first place, whether it's there to pad out the story a bit or serve as a story in its own right?

"It's not part of the main story though..." - Yeah? So what - you enjoyed it right?
I guess it just annoys me that VEI hasn't standardized their "filler" issues. We've had #0 issues, 1-shot #1 issues, stand-alone story in-numbering issues, and now an Annual issue. Just make a decision and stick with it.
I think all of those can/should serve very different purposes.
They can, but they haven't always. #0 issues should be origin issues, but Faith #0 wasn't. Why did we get VALIANT 25th Anniversary #1 with basically Shanhara 0 in it, but XO 0 had a random story about Aric before he was XO? Q&W got a "giant-sized" special, but this is a Bloodshot Annual?

Faith #0 was the origin of who she is as a person, not her superpowers. The 25th Anniversary special was a special thing. I wouldn't be surprised if that story was originally planned as a Shanhara #0, but VEI wanted to do something special for the anniversary. I don't necessarily disagree with the X-O #0 complaint. Q&W didn't have an ongoing series at the time of the special. Usually there needs to be an ongoing series to have an annual.

Honestly, as long as I like the contents I don't really mind what the title and number of the book is.

I guess it just comes across more emphatically as filler to me when there's always some new honorific to go along with it. That's all.

I'm with Bugsy ... Not terribly bothered but I would like a consistent pattern. Still looking forward to it though.

I chalk it up to VEI trying to compete in a very gimmick oriented market. They have to try different stuff out to see what sells. As long as the content remains good I don't care about the numbering or format.
