I'm not 100% sure, but I believe 10% is taken off the sale price.corey wrote:greg wrote:I've bought and sold on Comiclink. They get 10% of a sale price, similar to Ebay, but they receive the the book and send it to the buyer, so there's both a confidence and confidential aspect.
It's pretty clear that some buyers and sellers, particularly for high priced books, really appreciate confidentiality. Ebay does an OK job of masking bidder identity, but Comiclink completely hides both buyer and seller.
Ebay's bidder protection is probably fine, but I wouldn't buy a very expensive book on Ebay from a seller without a good history of selling a similar level of books. I have bid more and spent more for individual books on Comiclink and Heritage than Ebay because I knew a "trusted middleman" would handle the book first.
Even some (not necessarily high dollar) books I've sold on this board have been confidential from a private message rather than a public "I'll take it" post because the buyer didn't want any public announcement.
do you know if the bidder has to pay the 10%? or pay taxes on the final bid?

Yep, the seller gets 10% less than the sale price. Buyer bids $100, buyer pays $100. Seller gets $90.Intrepidxc wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but I believe 10% is taken off the sale price.corey wrote:do you know if the bidder has to pay the 10%? or pay taxes on the final bid?greg wrote:I've bought and sold on Comiclink. (Though there is a shipping cost that's pretty high if the book is cheap and there's a 3% buyer fee added for something... maybe credit card vs. personal check.)

For any that are interested, the Bloodshot #0 Platinum will be in the March auction at ComicLink:
http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item. ... 201#detail" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
it's a no reserve auction, so someone may get lucky with this one.

That's an early copy. Graded in 2006, the 3rd CGC 9.8 and the 6th overall.iopollycron wrote:For any that are interested, the Bloodshot #0 Platinum will be in the March auction at ComicLink:

I wish you the best of luck but I have seen terrible results from these Comiclink auctions. Any no-reserve setting is a big risk on an item like this.iopollycron wrote:For any that are interested, the Bloodshot #0 Platinum will be in the March auction at ComicLink:

And I am no critic of comiclink, I think they are great, but contrary to popular belief no-reserve online auctions do not always bring market prices.

I haven't seen too many below GPA sales on the last 2 Comiclink auctions. Now obviously a niche book is more risky, but the keys so far this year have not been selling at much of a discount.ckb wrote:I wish you the best of luck but I have seen terrible results from these Comiclink auctions. Re: Best way to sell CGC9.8 BloodShot #0 Platinum Error Vari
For me personally as a non-regular user of comiclink those long auctions can be a detriment. I see something that ends in a few weeks, I may watch it but then never go back in to look even if I really wanted an item. I have the ebay app, so it's easy for me to pop in the app on my phone to check stuff I'm watching and stuff I'm selling. Honestly, if I didn't have the ebay app on my phone my buying/selling activity would be greatly reduced.ckb wrote:I wish you the best of luck but I have seen terrible results from these Comiclink auctions. You are correct, it is great for sellers of bronze and silver keys. I would not expect the same results here. Once this book gets to $3-$400 any casual interest will be gone and you will need hardcore valiant people to get it over that. IMHO.apacseller wrote:I haven't seen too many below GPA sales on the last 2 Comiclink auctions. It's gotta be me, but I just can't seem to get interested in any of the VH1 stuff. Is the value there? absolutely! Is it collectible? for certain! Is/was it a good comic? yep! Still, VH1 isn't my bag, man.
I will still be watching this auction like a hawk! Because I don't collect it doesn't mean I am not interested/curious...

If you look at a lot of the big money comics you'll find on the recalled comics website, most are entirely-driven by a strong cult following. I don't think anyone outside of that cult values the 'investability' of the book, or even the title in some instances. I may or may not be a fan of TMNT, but I totally get why number 1 commands the money it does.TheeBaldMoose wrote:It's gotta be me, but I just can't seem to get interested in any of the VH1 stuff. Since these books are so rare, the sales data is a bit like a yo-yo, the prices are volatile and primarily driven by short-term fluctuations in supply and the changes in perception on demand. I once had 11 of the 12 maxx ashcans, but got sick of trying to complete the run, plus the value didn't justify what I felt was worth (compared to other stuff I wanted).

I have trouble paying "big money" for recent comics, even Valiant, because everything I know about the comic book industry shows that you can pick out "winning books" after 20 years much easier than you can pick out "winning books" after 20 weeks.
That doesn't mean that I don't already have thousands of dollars worth of new Valiant stuff. I do.
But I'm not sure how much of it is going to be "great choices" for my collection after 5 or 10 years.
Some of it will be. But not everything... and that's hundreds of dollars (at least) that I could have put elsewhere in hindsight.
Meanwhile, I already know what's worth having from 1990s Valiant. I have those, too, and feel much better about the books I picked.

I assume that 95% of my Valiant books will be worth less than I paid, just like V1 today, and most comic books in general. I buy them because I enjoy them.

I honestly don't see how there is any risk whatsoever in a no reserve auction for this item. It is extremely rare, coveted, valuable, and graded in high grade. I see this bringing high bids.I'm sure I cannot afford this copy,especially after the last 3 comiclink auctions I have tried to buy something

ComicLink is very 2002, but I suspect enough people are aware of this to bring a market price to this book despite the venue.

$1,310 now. Due to my recent cover purchase I cannot go as wild on this one as I might like; however, I 100% will snag it up for $1,310!
I'm sure more than a few agree, and as a result it will NOT sell for $1,310...

Exactly. That was my $1,000 bid that helped drive the price up. I can't go the $3500 or so I expect this book to sell for but I took a chance.DirtbagSailor wrote:$1,310 now. Yeah, I imagine that 70% of the people who would want to own it are are on this board. It would only take three or four earnest bidders to drive the price to its market value on Ebay.nycjadie wrote:ComicLink is very 2002, but I suspect enough people are aware of this to bring a market price to this book despite the venue.

Do you think it will go that high? I just don't think this is worth anywhere near that. I know we've seen a few sell for $2K+, but I see this as a sub $2K book. More will come, and there are only so many buyers. Just my opinion mind you, but I just don't see it.Intrepidxc wrote:Exactly. That was my $1,000 bid that helped drive the price up. Well, lets think about it. In the past year;
$3,100 - Zero's 9.8 Universal copy bought by Greg.
$3,000 - Jason David Frank's raw copy (that he signed and had graded 9.6 SS)
$2,100 - DBS's 9.6 Universal copy (later signed by Joe Quesada and graded 9.6 SS)
Of the 5 known 9.8 sales, only 1 has sold for LESS than $2,000 and that was 11+ years ago.
So $3,000 is quite possible.
