Re: Complaining About Quantum & Woody
Q&W never quite fit with the Valiant world I know and love although I did think it was the best thing about Acclaim. I think Christopher Priests writing was really clever and while every joke doesn't land now the way it did when I was younger, I think it's definitely better than the few issues I've read of the relaunch. Priest's run had more to it than just stupid humor.nonplayer wrote:Have you read the old still latly does it hold up to the test of time and your grown up maturity?geocarr wrote:I think Q&W were the best thing from the Acclaim era but I don't think VEI has been able to replicate the humor and other components that made the original Q&W so good.
One thing I find with stuff I liked when I was younger is I'm different now and dont find it as good. Also the younger audience of now is alot different from our generation.
I'll admit the very first issue of Q&W from VEI was much better than I anticipated but it got old for me quickly.
Since Jamal Igle and Priest have history, I'm curious if Priest might at some point join this new version of Valiant.

Interesting that the relationship between Q+W and the rest of the VU has come up: I know it's been stated before that some folks don't feel it 'fits' with the rest of the VU, and I think for the most part they're probably right for the most part, in that the lighter-natured tone of the comic probably makes it more difficult to pair with most other comics in the line than others. The fact that in practice the characters haven't crossed over with any other title in the VU yet (aside from odd panels) with the exception of Delinquents seems to show this to be the case for the time being.
That said, it's clearly not an impossible task; however, making a success of doing so may link Q+W more tightly into the universe than it currently is, much to some folks' appreciation. On the other hand, is there really a NEED for the title to link to the rest of the universe? I know that the 'shared universe' is a big factor in some people's enjoyment of Valiant's publishing line, but it's clearly not an absolutely necessary requirement for a comic to be enjoyed and welcomed by part of Valiant's readership so just how important is it in Q+W's case? Or for any other title for that matter?
