Checked my LCS today and they had like 7 copies of this on the shelf. And every single one was dented on the spine. Either my shop owner doesn't give a *SQUEE* about his books or he has the worst luck with Diamond. facepalm Didn't bother picking any up in that condition.

I didn't realize this is the first Batman Beyond. No idea how I overlooked it.

Ultimate Spider-Man sealed in white bag sells for 50.00. I can't tell if both copies sold for this amount, but there's a good chance. Back when this book hit, there were tons on eBay, and I think the print-run was way high.

Here's a seller asking 39.99.

How come Ultimate Fallout 4 doesn't go for more? Wasn't that MM's first appearance?

Yes, that's his first appearance. I've no idea why it doesn't go for more, but I believe it should. I would think the print run on that book is less than Ultimate Spider-Man 1 in the white bag, too.

So I only discovered this thread a few weeks ago and have almost read the whole thing. I don't see new additions though. So my question is what are the requirements to being a hot book? Would it be a first appearance with the potential to go up alot in value or is it a book that is trading for more and more? I think I could contribute a lot to this thread but I want to make sure I am only injecting what is wanted.

Just as a example : Hot books ; Clone 1 and Day Men 1. Both being optioned and going up in value.
: 1st books under radar (maybe) Web of Spider Man 118 and 119. 1st Scarlet Spider man and Kaine. Very hard to find because they were 90's books and no body kept them. Normally seen in $.25 bins or $1 boxes, almost never in high grade. Both going for hundreds in high grade cgc.

I look forward to the responses.

I think you are right in that Web 118 and 119 bear mentioning in this thread. One aspect of this thread that is mostly overlooked is the hard to find modern comics part, and those books are indeed hard to find in high grade due, I think, to the Clone books being disrespected for so long. Now we have a popular series in Kaine, which sprang from the Clone Saga. You never know which characters may become important down the road.
Not that my definition for hot is all encompassing by any means, but currently hot comics I think should be not only currently popular, but also rising in price by a good percentage.
I encourage people to just post what they think is currently hot in this thread, and maybe others can gain something from those posts.

I think I may add to this thread on a weekly basis..maybe dropping 1-3 comics a week. I like obscure reasons for hot books or books to watch. I wonder is there a need to mention the hard to get books when something comes out like Catwoman 23 (where several stores didnt get any at all) or the DC 3d covers, where books are short printed but I don't think the value will hold. I am just such a lover of this medium and I find this aspect especially fascinating.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll try to start adding at least a few books a month again too. Its nice to have some renewed interest in this thread.

This thread is the modern equivalent of "Picks from the Wizard's Hat" or whatever that column used to be called that basically inflated the price on any two given books each month. LOL! Except we are probably more reactionary than creationist about the market. ;)

oh so you're saying with the great power comes great responsibility :o ?!I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself with that one. And besides who you calling reactionary if I can create millions of dollars for myself I am totally in on that! but in all seriousness when I started reading this thread that's exactly what came to my mind. And being such a long time collector I always love being able to dig through the boxes and boxes of books and find that one of your first appearance like Union Jack /3s first appearance in Captain America.

I've been picking up web 118s whenever they are in the cheap bins. I doubt I have any high grade copies though.

truth be told 119 is the better one. That's the first appearance of kaine. Since he's a character alive and still going strong that would make it the better book in my opinion.

I need to check my copies of Web 118/119. I got wrapped up in the Clone Saga since I picked up ASM 149 solely due to that Wizard column!

I agree, though if Ben Reilly ever comes back all you know what will break loose on 118 prices. I've always thought he will come back. I've always been wrong. So far.

Ok guys here is the first of many future "Hot Picks"..lol. This one appears to be in low supply after the first couple days. Seeing as she is going to be a important character in Catwoman for a bit check out Catwoman 23 2nd print with the red cover for the 1st cameo of Joker's Daughter.

As for back issues let's look at...Battle Scars 1 and 6. The first issue being "Cheese" and "Marcus". They are better known as and revealed to be in #6 Agent Coulson and Nick Fury Jr. (also played by Samuel Jackson in the movie verse!). I would also say that Scarlet Spider #4 is one to watch because it was the first "in continuity" app. of Nick Fury Jr. With the success of the Agents of... t.v. show these books could start to see increases as people start to find out about them.

As a side note I was very surprised to see that Amazing Spider Man 569 (Venom cover) still demanding a nice chunk of change!

Last but not least I think I will post sometime between Fri and Mon every week. The reason for that is it gives me a few days to check the water on weekly books and decide what 2-3 older books I want to talk about. Also I will continue to read all input from everyone else! I would love to hear your thoughts! :thumb:

well ever sinceI read it I would say not very much. It's the issue where they show Mr Freeze killed his mother. Other than the fact that the annual has a number one on it I don't believe there was anything all that special a great about it.
