A straight auction. That'll be a good benchmark for the book.nycjadie wrote:Holy bananas. You could get this for $30 a month ago.

FWIW - $215 for Divinity 1 1:40 raw. That's bananas. At that rate, a 9.8 slab would be in the $500 range, I would imagine, at least.

Yeah, I was shocked when I saw that. Is this the most expensive VEI issue now?

Hard to say really. The 1st Unity #1 3-D Variant sold for like $350 or something raw via Bleeding Cool's eBay auction; I won't even get into what I paid for my Unity #1 Golden Ticket... (Likely THE current VEI record though).Matches Malone wrote:Yeah, I was shocked when I saw that. Is this the most expensive VEI issue now?
Any SUPER rare/HTF/High-Grade VEI issue is likely already deep in the icy-grip of a collector with ZERO intention to sell.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
That's true, there are lots of candidates... but most (if not all) of those are valuable because they are low print.
At some point, there will need to be "something else" involved to make comics stand the test of time.
"Low print" is great, but it's easy to repeat.
Valiant has basically had a new "lowest print ever" variant of some kind every month for the past 3 years.
The Golden Ticket items are awesome... one-of-a-kind... but there's no collector participation for one-of-a-kind.
There are individual sales, but new people can't ALSO collect those items because there are no others to buy.
Divinity #1 1:40 is low print, "perhaps the lowest" according to Dinesh... for now... so that's one thing.
That's very similar to the list you've posted above, as far as "hard to find and rarely seen in CGC 9.8 slabs",
but Divinity #1 also has the first appearance of Abram Adams.
Traditionally, first appearances of characters are far more important than "low print".
Which is more exciting?
The first appearance of Spider-man from 1962, or some "super low print" Spider-man book (his 7,568th appearance from a couple of years ago)?
No matter how low that print run is... if the book has nothing else going for it, expect the demand to be low.
The goal is "high demand" and "low print"... and the inside pages of the book are usually VERY important when that happens.
Combine those two things... like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (first print), for example...
or perhaps Divinity #1 1:40 when we look back in a few years... and you've really got something.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
Divinity 1 has some weird pricing. The variant cover doesn't do nearly as well as the main cover, even though it is probably printed in the same numbers (or less). Even the 1:10 variant sells for about half of the main cover, and that definitely is a shorter print run.
I also expect there to be plenty of 9.8s eventually. Every Divinity cover I have seen is always in beautiful condition. I love that cardstock.

I think the non-figurative covers are not as coveted, despite being lower in print. Says a lot about comic collectors.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
Agreed 100%, though time will tell what/which book will be "king" in 5-10 years. I suspect that all of (or certainly most of) the above books will command much higher prices than they presently do. But you make a solid point that Divinity #1 is the best of both worlds in both significance and scarcity; a rare combo.greg wrote:At some point, there will need to be "something else" involved to make comics stand the test of time.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
I picked up the following Divinity books today:
#2 Second Printing- $3.99
#4 Cover B- $3.99
#4 1:10 Variant- $9.95
#4 1:20 Variant- $19.95
That is more than I wanted to spend on the 1:10 and 1:20 variants, but these are getting harder to find in the wild.

Those are the going rates around these parts. With Divinity, they are hard to find in shops. eBay maybe.

I would add X-O Manowar #1 Gold to this list Valiant has been out of this Gold for over a year now. They still have some Harbinger #1 even after all this time. This book (X-O #1 Gold) is getting harder and harder to find now...DirtbagSailor wrote:Hard to say really. So true. So in addition to low print run and first appearance, visual desirability is a factor.nycjadie wrote:I think the non-figurative covers are not as coveted, despite being lower in print. Says a lot about comic collectors.

I agree.... However, I think these "lower print, less visual" ones in the LONG run will be more desirable than now as collectors or completionists need them. People will realize that it IS his 1st appearance and they will be rather scarce. I mean 820-850 1:10's? Good luck finding those later on. You guys remember how hard it is to find an Armorines 4 with what? 2000 print run?jmatt wrote:Points for perfect imagery!DirtbagSailor wrote: Any SUPER rare/HTF/High-Grade VEI issue is likely already deep in the icy-grip of a collector with ZERO intention to sell. That's what's great about these early VEI low print runs. I went nuts a few weeks back trying to get my paws on as many copies of Harby #3 as possible, first appearance of Livewire.

Saw that a Larosa variant of issue 2 sold for $80 on Ebay. Not available on Midtown anymore. It is no longer just the first issue that is seeing high prices and activity.

I picked up a Divinity #1 1:40 LaRosa variant off eBay for $195.00 shipped and the seller threw in a copy of Supergirl #1 New 52 for free for my daughter.
That is the most money I have ever spent on a raw comic book and I hope to not repeat the process any time soon.

I paid $100 for my copy, and at the time that was the most I had seen. Now $100 for a copy would almost be called a "deal"
