Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
I'm still evaluating, but I really am starting to think that CBCS grades harder than CGC (which is a good thing in the long run). All my CGC submissions have come back 9.6 or better; my CBCS submissions have come back .2 lower grade-wise on almost every submission (with a few noted exceptions of course).nycjadie wrote:I haven't witnessed that CBCS is stricter on grading. I'd want consistent first-hand knowledge of that before investing in a CBCS 9.9, personally. Others have had that experience, but I have not. My Nintendo CBCS slabs in 9.8, in my opinion, would not slab in 9.8 or 9.6 at CGC. This is based on my experience with screening those books at CGC. The creasing on the fold on the early thicker binding on the early Nintendo books is very hard to get in high grade, and I think CBCS inflated those books, in the slabs I've seen.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
Also, will someone please buy that damn Divinity #1 (LaRosa 1:40) CBCS 9.9 before the seller lowers his price into the dirt! He has lowered his price twice now, from $2200, to $1700, to $1400 OBO.
Considering how RAW copies are going for $300+ now (IF you can find them at all...) and the fact there are a confirmed 350 of less copies in circulation how many 9.9's do we expect to see?

That 9.9 would be nice to own, but there are too many 9.8's that I still need.

Part of the problem may be collectors haven't decided if a CBCS 9.9 is equal to a CGC 9.9. I personally can't see paying $2200 or even $1400 for a book that came out this year, but I know there are others who love to have one of a kind items.

I've thought about it, and whenever I go to eBay I tend to type in "(insert Valiant title) CGC" which brings up most CGC slabs for that title and only the CBCS slabs that ALSO have CGC in the listing (e.g. Divinity #1 CBCS 9.8 like CGC...)
That being the case, during auctions it will be LESS common for a CBCS slab to be seen than it will be a CGC slab due to our searching/buying habits.
I believe the market is cool with CBCS, but the visibility is simply less due to habit; take Greg's price guide for example. It lists recent CGC sales of books on eBay to determine price.
7,600 copies of NM 98 have been graded yielding 10 graded 9.9's. That is about one 9.9 for every 760 submitted.
9,500 copies of Wolverine #1 (limited) have been graded yielding 26 graded 9.9's. That is about one 9.9 for every 365 submitted.
So, it's reasonable to assume that Divinity #1 (with 350 in print) will either only have this one 9.9, or at best one more CGC or CBCS.
If this was 6 months ago or 6 months from now I would offer $1,000 easy.

However,

Both those examples have regular comic style paper and covers. Divinity cover stock is AWESOME! Kind of like the X-O 0 chromium cover... Lots of 10's and 9.9's compared to other books.
So I think the potential for more.... Regardless of the 350 is quite high.

Did some math, and so far 100% of the 1:40's submitted to CGC have graded at 9.8.Ricomortis wrote: However,![]()

As a matter of fact, the average grade of ALL variants of DIVINITY #1 submitted to CGC has been aprox 90% in the grade of 9.8 with 1 in 10 snagging 9.6. Not sure how many have been sent to CBCS or (GASP

So, of the 350, I know of 9 copies graded CGC/CBCS 9.8 or higher.
Only 341 to go!
Only 341 to go!

I have a two copies of Divinity 1 1:40 at CGC, hoping they come back 9.8 or higher.

Re: Divinity #1 price/sales tracking
I ran a little experiment between CBCS and CGC when CBCS first came out. I just received the grades of my experiments back from CGC. CGC graded all but one of the 4 books higher than CBCS. When I actually receive the books back I'll post scans and compare the graders notes.DirtbagSailor wrote:I'm still evaluating, but I really am starting to think that CBCS grades harder than CGC (which is a good thing in the long run). I'm looking forward to that. It would be interesting, and could work against their favor. I'll be more likely to submit to CGC, but buy CBCS graded books.

Tracking this Divinity #1 (LaRosa 1:40) CGC 9.8 auction.
Bids are up to $200 so far, with a BIN of $950. This looks to be one of the better chances to see this book selling on the open market.

Comicsheatingup.net is speculating that Imperium #7 will be a book to watch out for based on Divinity's appearance and anticipated continuation of his story. This might not only make it tougher to find this book but might continue the boost in value for the Divinity series. Glad to see others continue to discover the quality story and art of VEI.

I got to preview IMPERIUM #7 and will tell you that it is an awesome read that (spoiler) shows a bit more of who Divinity is (as a character), what he can do, and perhaps how he might fit into the Valiant Universe.JCP wrote:Comicsheatingup.net is speculating that Imperium #7 will be a book to watch out for based on Divinity's appearance and anticipated continuation of his story. Not sure if it will be a mega expensive book, but I wouldn't be shocked if the less common variants stand out slightly due to the appearance and relative scarcity.

Too bad they aren't doing a 1:50 variant of Imperium #7. With the relatively low print run of that title, a 1:50 would be legitimately tough to get. But the 1:20 they are doing will definitely be worth getting.

Midtown is already "out of stock" of all three covers of Imperium #7, two days before it's released. The two covers that Divinity appears on are labeled A and B, B could just be a 1 of 1, (they are priced the same, $4) or a 1:10, I'm not sure, the third cover (C) which is priced higher ($17) and doesn't feature Divinity, is most likely, a 1:20.CongoBill wrote:DirtbagSailor wrote:Not sure if it will be a mega expensive book, but I wouldn't be shocked if the less common variants stand out slightly due to the appearance and relative scarcity.

Either way, Divinity seems to have the Midus Touch, Imperium #7 & #8 will both have multiple printing I'm sure.
