Whats really funny though is the American guy who emailed me about my description, telling me they arent hard to find, also how he knows Steve Purcell and how he signed his books etc etc.
NOw that was when the auction went up, but they still sold for really great money and the reason i went into so much detail was because i had seen one go a few months earlier for £51.00 !!!!!!!!!

That is all colors of madness. I have found that when somebody wants to buy something from you, it is all of a sudden 'very common', not 'HTF' yadda yadda, yet if it is a seller, all of a sudden he has one out of the 12 that were ever made. :D

Aaaah, white people. Whatcha gonna do, eh ?

Do what a shady store did back in the 90's to its customers: cut a notch into the comics that it sold from their racks.

One of my co-workers told me he was looking through the comics be bought 15+ years ago and the store had taken out a notch at the bottom of some of the pages in all of the books he had purchased. Talk about a freakin' d!ck move.

Or go out looking for long boxes of very common books and contribute them to bon fires. :?

Speaking of sellers be dip wads, check this out.

Wow. a beautiful #2 at that (hehe, beautiful #2..)! Any chance of finding out what it set you back? I'll keep it private if you would rather, it's just a book I've been wanting to buy for a while, and I'm trying to figure out what grade my bucks should get me. Which 0 and 1 do you have?

0 - 3rd, 4th, 4th deluxe (maybe a 2nd print in the mix)

1 - Bright Red

Nice, I was eyeing an Albedo 2 today at Wondercon, but it just wasn't cheap enough for the condition. Probably the cheapest copy I've ever seen, but too rough for the price. If I go back tomorrow, maybe I'll see what it's really worth to him.

I absolutely love sorting my DU books, but i dont bag and board yet.
Most arent in great grades worthy of the time and money .
The main problem with grades also is that most of what is available over here is in peoples cheap boxes, where they are loose and treated poorly from storage to display. So whilst i enjoy them, collecting, sorting, listing etc, the condition on most is mid grade with some lower.
I realise that if i were in the US most of my DU books would be spiffy condition and thats a gutter ill tell ya, cos most of what i have picked up from the US is indeed minty.
My wants/got list is still 100% up to date 1 year later so that's so cool for me.
I get stuff and it sits in a specific place for entry onto my spread sheets. Then eventually into the mass of boxes in storage, but i can only get to them for the 1st time this year next week if all goes to plan :)

I have a few copies of 'Albedo'... one has the female character jumping out of the water. I've never looked at them though.

I have been VERY lucky as all but a few of my DU books are in darn good shape. I have made sure that ALL my Valiant and Crossgen books were in minty fresh (as could be) condition. The rest I would have accepted under par books but luckily I have been blessed with very nice looking books.

My biggest surprise was from mycomicshop.com When the order came in, I had ordered quite a few New Universe, Impact and Red Circle books. There were in GREAT condition.

Too bad about your 'bin books' over there.

Yeah, they get tossed around something horrible, even we dont take that great care of our cheap stock

I do a have a good hit of nicer DU books too, but im sure 25% of mine are lower than vf, but like your Valiant and Crossgen etc, those kind of DU's are all in lovely condition.
Its mainly books from publishers like Caliber and MAlibu imprints other than Bravura and Ultraverse that i dont mind in lower grades, as they are an absolute *SQUEE* to get at all over here, so in happy to just cross them off the master DU list
A few others liek some First Eclipse etc also are a bit shabby here and there too.
Basically when i realised what a crazy task i had set myself, i slowly lowered the standards on what i would accept, which in hindisght turned out to be a good move, as the lists are filling much faster and im enjoying it more than being anal over books that wont have any re sale value no matter the grade

I am going after nice copies of Virgin books as well. I hardly EVER find Virgin books in the cheap bins (and on the shelf) and seeing as how what I have so far are very nice, I might as well go for it.

Virgin books are always in nice condition here as they are all cardstock and dot get damaged as easily as most.
I checked my list and i still need quite a few despite having nearly a small box of them. More importantly i only have on premium issue that Drift got me for Xmas.

I just got lucky. Was at a very small con. And there was a guy with about 30 longboxes. He tells me it is the stuff from his collection he wants to get rid of. He wanted 50 cents a comic, but I talked him down to 10 cents each since I knew I would be dropping at least 100 bucks. Got a bunch of the various Valiants I needed. The Armorines Vol 2 #4 is near mint, and the Comico Primer #5 is one of the mintest comics I have seen in years. Also picked up Atlas/seaboard The brute #3 and Fright featuring Son of Dracula #1.

800 plus pages, £8 shipped.

It may not be a DU, but it is a rockin read. I have read the orginal, and thought I would try this format as I like comics so much.
