When I went to pick up my comics last week the manager mentioned it to me before I mentioned it (I'd forgotten all about it come the day, Hell, even Phantom's NAME escaped me at the time because I was so zoned out!)

Anyway, he said that he thought the Harbinger TPB was really good, even if we agreed that the majority of character's faces looked a bit too squashed and samey throughout the arc. At least he appreciated the content - so much so that he expressed an interest in ordering some of the trades into the shop for customers to buy in the future :) Whether or not that'll happen because of his enthusiasm remains to be seen, but no doubt the shop'll get stocked with Valiant trades sooner or later when the Valiant comics keep selling consistently :)

It's been a hard battle, but we're finally getting there! :D

So much so, that I wonder if he'll be open to the idea of some Valiant Fan independent promotion instore come Unity... :hm:

I think there is an unspoken rule you can derail your own thread.

Did speak to the manager at length.
Few weeks ago, forgot to post.

Interesting he said more mature readers are picking it up.
Also he said the art tries to be more mainstream but the stories are much more involved. He compared it to xmen art, which confused some buyers as the story didn't match.

To clear that up, he said it's a great independent with great writing style. Why not have original art, than copy x men.

I don't read xmen. But I thought it was a compliment. Surely marvel pays big bucks to keep it's best selling team book up to scratch.

Personally, I think harbinger art matches the book well.

But no quantum woody, even though I asked for all valiant titles.

I can't believe this thread is still going. I really thought that it had finally died.

I don't know about comparing the art to X-Men, as I haven't read any. Will have a look when I go in the shop today though to make a little comparison of my own just out of curiosity. I can see how "It has really good art, like Marvel's best titles, and a good story to match" could be a compliment if that's what he meant, but from reading what you've put here it seems like he's perhaps trying to compare Harb and X Men a little too closely I think. The comparison is valid: Two comics both featuring ensemble casts of groups of people with extraordinary powers. But when you start comparing storylines and themes, I think the divide quickly becomes obvious.

His suggestion for a more original art style isn't out of place I feel, as if an artist were found who really managed to make Harbinger stick out from the crowd, it could only be a good thing for the book I'm sure. But having said that I think that the current art in the book suits it well enough. I don't like the guy's work who drew issue #1 and subsequent books/pages from there and his samey, smooshy faces, but that's just my opinion.

As for not having Q+W in your pullbox... I imagine it's just an honest mistake, happens from time to time I'm sure. Especially as this is the first month the comic has come in. I called the shop a few days, maybe a week ago and they have Q+W sitting in my pullbox waiting for me no problem :)

Going to go make my once-monthly trip in a few hours and pick it up along with my other Valiant, hooray! :D

X-Men doesn't really have a distinctive style that no other comics are drawn in... which X-Men title most importantly!? That's a weird statement.

Strange how you go to a shop to pick up comics, and end up moving furniture in someone's house you have never met before, and most likely never met again.

I don't remember that. You must have been on some heavy medication or something. We picked up comics and hung out a bit, and then you shambled off down the street mumbling to yourself whilst thumbing your copy of Quantum and Woody... That's my recollection of our meetup anyway.

New update in the 'Forbidden Planet' saga!

Was nattering with the manager for a bit, telling him about the October Bleeding Cool magazine with the Shadowman 13x issue in it and he said that he already knew about it and was going to make sure he got copies in for us Valiant fans with pullboxes there.

Apparently it's not much of a hassle, because "there are only half a dozen hardcore Valiant fans with pullboxes" in that particular shop.

6. 6... 6?!

He doesn't deny the quality of the Valiant material, but apparently there are about 6 "hardcore" fans that are picking up Valiant each month and nobody else is buying it :|

What's the sitch like in everybody else's LCS's, as far as you know? Is Valiant selling poorly, well, or substantially where you live?

Care to share ahead of time? Do you mean that you're going to use it for promotion in the shop somehow, or just that you're going to show it to lots of people in the hopes of driving them into the shop to buy Valiant regularly as a consequence?

My shop has been a big supporter of the line, but I've noticed lately that if I don't order a 1:20 variant specifically, they don't get them for their 'Variant wall' anymore, where they did before. Which means they are reducing their orders. I haven't had a chat with the owner/manager to see how far they are tailing off yet.

I'm still the only customer with an "All Valiant" pull list around these parts... the main shelves are cluttered with Big 2 stuff, sadly. :(
