Proably not... again, one time I spoke with Tom Mason and he said that when Marvel bought out Malibu, the folks at Malibu threw out/burned thousands of books and other cool 'stuff' from Malibu/Ultraverse... and employees only took what they could carry or put in their vehicles. Most just let it burn and very few kept 'stuff'.
My train of thought is that the gold/silver/Ultra5000 books are MUCH rarer in terms of exactly how many there are left in the world. Many were destroyed... leaving what we have today and most have not been taken care of through the years.

I am not sure but did Ultraverse 'do' well ? I don't think it was all that popular where I was living when it came out and I was but a very few that were purchasing it every month. But I tell ya, they published like they had been around as a Universe for YEARS and to me, they 'felt' that way.
What about where you guys lived ?

I did try a few first issues but i was on the verge of backing away from the industry as a retailer.
My friend however bought them all so i got a good read.
I enjoyed them more after a year or so then started to pick a few titles myself like Firearm and Solitaire.
The reason i think they went bust was due to the massive amount of similar product and a dwindling marketplace.
Where innovation was required and no one was providing it the speculator market scared a lot of folks away and no new blood was rushing in so they suffered further.
Also when Marvel bought them i don't recall then attempting to keep it Ultraverse, more like more Marvel, so the unique qualities they did have disappeared and so did the audience.
They did publish like a company who had been around for some time and i really thought they had a chance at surviving for the long run.
I guess it goes to show that its not the creative quality always that decides the fate of your company.

At the time of the buy out, Ultraverse was already not doing so well. In fact, they had to borrow 2.2 million from Marvel just to pay their legal fees to let Marvel BUY THEIR COMPANY !!! Crazy huh ?
Marvel bascially purchased Malibu because of their ability to computer colorize comics. Their 'coloring team' was actually located in Scotland and was outdated and cumbersome due to the time difference, mailing, faxing and other problems so it was just easier to buy Malibu and absorb their intellectual properties, see if they would float for a while and then just put them on the shelf as I believe there might have been a contractual 'you will publish x amount of Ultraverse related comcis after the buy out', which many of us found to be aweful, but there were a few that I didnt mind (altought I hated what they did to The Night Man). Then Ultraverse just went away and Marvel had a homegrown coloring process that worked very well for them... but at the cost of the Ultraverse.
IMO, Ultraverse started out VERY well but with the 'glut' of the 90s was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They had a very solid foundation with Malibu (and it's other company titles) but it was not enough to fight the big TWO and while they still produced a large number of books, the caliber of the books was just not 'up to speed' with the rest of the industry. I could go for an Ultraverse reunion mini-series one of these days though, or a 'year of Ultraverse' just to see a few new stories but I bet that Marvel has put them into the vault never to see the light of day again. bummer as I really did enjoy them and they made up the bulk of my overseas ordering when I was finally stationed in Germany once again and getting discounted books from out in California (along with Marvel, Valiant and Image).
Among my favorites were Firearm, Hardcase, The Solution and The Night Man. Couldnt get enough of those but I felt that most of the issues, I was always waiting for the art to get better... maybe a better inker or something. I don't know. Finally I just gave up on it (then Statema showed up... wow) and felt that they were a 'good read' and I could blast through an issue in abotu 15 minutes, which kept my attention span going. Then I got behind in my reading after being deployed to Bosnia so many times that the pile just kept getting bigger and bigger until I didnt have the time to catch up... divorce hit, I lost my whole collection and the rest is history. I AM proud to say though that NOW I have more Ultraverse and other comics than I ever had 'back then' and that I still have new Ultraverse stories to read along with Crossgen, New Universe, Continuity, Bravura and a few others when I finally get around to it. I still have universes to explore... and they are all brand new stories for me.

I try to stay away from quid... it's a little rubbery and leaves a bit of an aftertaste in my mouth. Not really sure if I like it.
(anybody quote this in the 'use somebody elses quote' thread and I will hunt you down, find where you sleep and I swear by all that is holy, your family and friends will weep after they see what I have done to what remains of your body)

You are thinking of "quim", not "quid".
