This analysis is relevant if we assume the demand stays the same or decreases. The census numbers are still much too small to absorb any sort of spike in demand.Escaflown4 wrote:You may be right. I wasn't factoring the folks that will bid to protect their investments. Either way, it will be a losing gamble for them as I can only see the value shrinking as more copies come out of the wood works. I'll say maybe in two years it will reach the $500-600 point and continue to depreciate as time goes. So far, the book has dropped from $2500 from last year to its current average sales of $1300 - $1400.400yrs wrote:I doubt it would drop that low that quickly since people like to protect their investments. Possibly in the 700 - 800 range, I could see easily (provided nothing new from VEI). If copies keep changing hands often, the investment protection bidding will slow.Escaflown4 wrote:As the trend shows, it seems the supply is catching up with the demand. If this continues, it would not surprise me to see prices fall in the $300-400 range by next year.
I do not think, barring some major discovery or change in CGC grading practices, that we will ever see more than 2-3 hundred 9.8s on the census. Even this number is low for a major key and a book considered a top example of era and genre. I'd expect a falling price to increase demand as it becomes more affordable - where it wil level off I will not guess.
