I've seen the variants chucked in grab bags in Forbidden Planet at 4 for £1 and still haven't been tempted.Draco wrote:Im not even sure i will want them at £1, maybe 50p, lolJohnnyRnR wrote:I feel surprised, didn't know a second issue came out. And didn't buy any of either. I'll happily pick of some variants once they bottom out.

Not sure if you have read much of my monstrous rants in the history of the board, but Image early books were just plain sh ite dude, with Spawn being the worst of a bunch that promised so much, well apart from Youngblood of course.RJMooreII wrote:I feel you underrate Image. Though the writing (usually) is nothing to compare to early Valiant, much of it is not worse than Marvel and DC titles. Shooter and Starlin are the best in the business, but comparing other comic lines to them is just...unfair.Draco wrote:Im not even sure i will want them at £1, maybe 50p, lolJohnnyRnR wrote:I feel surprised, didn't know a second issue came out. It's like comparing comic artists to Frank Frazetta. No contest, Frazetta is better. But he also doesn't put stuff out weekly.
I grabbed some Stormwatch while I was out drinking with my sister today. Surprisingly good!
That said i actually liek a lot of their output in the last ten years and a good hit of what they have done since the latter 90's.
I like Shooter and Starling, but wouldnt say they were the best in the business, but amongst them yes.
Frazetta had a memorable style and is remembered as being a master from old, but to say they he is better than everyone else isnt something i would agree with and is most certainly a matter of opinion, much like Jack Kirby being the King.
Good show on the Stormwatch, was it early or Ellis later on?

Jim Shooter is at best an average-to-good writer, but he's never been a great writer. He's a much better creator, plotter, editor, and EiC than he's ever been at writing.
I'm one of the biggest Jim Starlin fans you will ever find I have spent over 15 years collecting ever every issue and appearance of Dreadstar I could find (It took me almost 10 years just to find Epic Illustrated #9 and #15) I spent over $100 to get a sign and numbered copy of the DF Dreadstar. I own 2 portfolios of his artwork one of which called "Insanity" is older than I am. I have bought books that I would never touched with a 10 foot pole because he was a guest writer or artist on. That being said Starlin like Shooter is only a great writer when he is doing cosmic stories or creator-owned titles like Breed, Wyrd: The Reluctant Warrior, Cosmic Guard, and Dreadstar (and this is a series after #32 or so you could tell Starlin was bored with it).
The best writer today is Peter David. He can write just about any kind of story and takes you on ride that you never want to get off. I've yet to read a bad Peter David story and that is something I can't say about many other writers.
