Unfortunately, it's a necessary evil. One we do not step into lightly. The last thing I want to do is 10 variants for each issue, but we will be doing some. And in true Valiant tradition this obstacle is an opportunity to be creative. We have some things planned for these that I think you guys will get really excited about and that everyone who loves storytelling/innovation can get behind.hulk181man wrote:Yes it is...annoying as hell too.Elveen wrote:kevinbastos wrote:If they are available to all, then great. It's when I have to dump money after some longshot that gets crazy. As soon as it gets to the 1/5 variation, retailers, buyers, and hoarders all want to see part of the action. Be careful!etos45 wrote:I have to agree that the idea of multiple covers doesn't have me very excited. If they don't overdo it (like how Amazing Spider-man was doing two covers for practically every issue for a while and I think Dark Horse and IDW pretty much do the same), then I guess it won't be so bad. I'd like to be a completist with the new Valiant line, but I may have to pick and choose with multiple covers.Crow331 wrote:It's under the artwork ... it refers to one of the pencil drawings as "Cary Nord's pencils for his cover for "X-O" #1" .... then add in the painted cover by Esad Ribic and you have an original cover and a variant.
I'm not crazy about this idea. A lot of fans and retailers still have a sour taste in their mouth even after all these years regarding Valiant's variants, chromiums, etc. I think it would of been wiser to just have one cover for this launch title.
Isnt this the current comic industry?

Maybe one where you can scan with a serial number or take a pic of with your phone, but no clipping or removal of items from a comic to where you will need 2 copies - 1 clipped - 1 complete to collect.comicsyte95 wrote:I dont know a coupon promotion might be cool?

A serial number promotion where you dont have to clip a part off the comic is a much better idea.BruceReville wrote:Maybe one where you can scan with a serial number or take a pic of with your phone, but no clipping or removal of items from a comic to where you will need 2 copies - 1 clipped - 1 complete to collect.comicsyte95 wrote:I dont know a coupon promotion might be cool?

You know I am crazy enough to buy just about any/everything. As a crazed obsessed completist and lover of these things, I will jump through any and every hoop to get this stuff. I will turn over my allegiance to you - just don't want to turn it over to greedy middle - type - guys.

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
I agree there (but not counting on it) about the 1/5 variants, but I still have a hard time paying $2.99+ basically just for a cover and completion's sake. I've gotten a lot more particular about it hear in the past year or two, but with Valiant, I'd really like to try to get everything.kevinbastos wrote:If they are available to all, then great. It says he has already scripted X-O Manowar 5. That makes me happy.
I am pretty sure that Shooter still hasn't scripted Turok 5.

Puh-LEAZE NOOOOOO!!!
Nothing made me more sick in the 90's then having to buy two copies of a comic only to butcher one of them to get the coupon. The comic was pretty much useless after that.
Serial numbers would be cool, though, but then it'd either have to be poly-bagged or else people are going to be complaining about codes that are already redeemed.

Same here. The fact he is also talking about a second arc, is promising. Long term planning. Just what I wanted and, given the time Dino and crew have taken, what I expected. Excellent.Chiclo wrote:It says he has already scripted X-O Manowar 5. That makes me happy.

I was wondering the same thing. Knight was straight on that, typical ex military or is it American football background knowledge he's using.greg wrote:Where's Knightt? I want to know what he thinks of the shoulders "in action"...
Anyway I was in the comic shop yesterday, and asked about the poster and told them about may 2 nd.

What about somehow using QR codes on coupons so they don't have to be clipped out? Just scan them with your smart phone.etos45 wrote:BruceReville wrote:There better not be any coupons to clip![]()

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
The problem with using anything that can be "redeemed" using a smart phone is that you could stand in the comic shop and get them, without buying the comic.
Otherwise, you've got to seal them in somehow, which means the unsealed/used comics become like "coupon clipped out" versions.

Polybags that automatically self destruct in 60 days...

Re: EXCLUSIVE: VENDITTI & SIMONS RELAUNCH "X-O MANOWAR"
The worst gimmick cover ever was Bloodstrike #1. The blood splatter on the cover was visible, but to make it disappear you had to put it in the freezer to make the color fade away.
I know I don't like CGC, but a good idea for a valueable variant wuold be CGC Exclusive Covers. 1) It is CGC Graded & 2) It is exclusive to CGC as well.

No, I mean like are there going to be 100,000 copies published of #1, or 200,000 or just 50,000, etc.dino wrote:Will be revealed soon. But just 1 in May.Lightning Strike wrote:Hey Dino. I think people without smart phones might complain about that one. Personally, though, I am all for anything that doesn't require me to damage the books in order to get the free comic.Heath wrote:What about somehow using QR codes on coupons so they don't have to be clipped out? The solicitation has yet to appear in Previews. Any discussion of print runs is way too early.Lightning Strike wrote:No, I mean like are there going to be 100,000 copies published of #1, or 200,000 or just 50,000, etc.dino wrote:Will be revealed soon.
