Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
I think the dad is important, and will be in the future, but Harada probably already knows about him (though not necessarily that he was a Psiot). He could be a good weapon against Pete down the road.apainter wrote:You're right, that seems to be where Ingrid's interest lies. But as a reader of the original series, my first thought was "holy crap! Pete's dad is a psiot? And he's probably still alive?!" While the focus will likely be on Pete's "PSIOT POWERS, ACTIVATE!" ability, his dad will appear later, I think. He'll have to. You don't just drop that little detail out there without revisiting it.BugsySig wrote:Going back to Pete's dad--I could be reading too much into it, but wording is important. Ingrid says, "Did you say you were trying to activate your father's dormant powers?" not, "Did you say your father was like you?"
Again, I may be wrong and they may be more interested in where born-activated Psiots come from. But since Harada is the only person on Earth who can activate a Psiot, Pete's ability to do so would also be important.
I wonder if he'll be the same SOB he was in the original series.

Did we ever see Pete's dad in the original?apainter wrote:

Albert's dad and Archer's dad were real pieces of *SQUEE* in the original.
Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
This was my favorite single issue out of all the new Valiant books. Job very well done here.
Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
In Harbinger #21. Pete decides to go back home and resolve things with his dad. He finds his dad is in the hospital, on his deathbed, after years of alcoholism. There are several flashbacks showing Mr. Stanchek to be a drunk and physically abusive to both Pete and his mother.Blood of Heroes wrote: Did we ever see Pete's dad in the original?

It is a silly detail but it does distract from otherwise nice art.apainter wrote:If there's one problem with the art (and this may be more related to the coloring) it's that everybody seems to have silly putty faces.
About how much of a villain Harada is, at least he did not hesitate to cause the death of all those guarding the bleeding monk.
Did anyone mention that this Livewire has the same ability as the first universe's Bloodshot?
I am glad we see more of Pete at the foundation than we did in the original stories. I like this issue.

Yes, that Ion kid controls electricity but Livewire can talk to machines...interesting, but makes for a mind vs body mismatch with Stronghold should that tandem develop down the road. Also would be the same ability as Ax, right?magnusr wrote:It is a silly detail but it does distract from otherwise nice art.apainter wrote:If there's one problem with the art (and this may be more related to the coloring) it's that everybody seems to have silly putty faces.

Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
I am going to have to go back to read, did they say that the father ended up in a coma? I kinda took it that Pete killed him in his attempts to "activate" him.
I took the import of that scene to be on the fact that Pete was trying to activate another person, not so much that Pete's father will have any significance in the future.

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

It's one or the other. We'll have to wait and see.Zaphod wrote: I took the import of that scene to be on the fact that Pete was trying to activate another person, not so much that Pete's father will have any significance in the future.

And I'm wondering what the Darpan fixation on Winnebago is, too. I mean, it could be nothing but why choose that?
Maybe Pete bugs out with Darpan and a few other Harbinger kids and they go on "Sting and Darpan's Kooky RV Escapades".

They'd certainly meet an interesting cast of characters as they elude Harada from one campground to another...

And given that Samurai translates as "spirit warrior", I wonder if this has any sort of tie into Rising Spirit.greg wrote:Did anyone post this yet?

I wish that somebody could teach Khari Evans how to draw lips. Then his artwork would have been great.

Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
Is anyone going to mention that there were other telekinetics at Harbinger?? When Pete is walking through the school with the headmaster he passes several kids using their telekinetic powers. One kid is sitting Indian style in the air floating his Mac and ipod and books. We never had this in VH1.
I have to agree with the face art in this book. All the characters look the same with fat cheeks and no definition. Reminds me of Wonder Man comics from the 90's lol

Re: Harbinger 3 - Discussion Thread
I actually find a lot of the faces look the same, unfortunately. I think his art sets a great 'tone' for the book, and has the right feel, but I find myself actually having to put effort into figuring out who characters are, which prevents me from really getting into the story on the first read. Especially in issues #1&2, Pete and Joe looked extremely similar to me at first glance - the only identifier I could use was the hairstyle, and even that took work.Carson wrote:LOL. I still think the art matches the feel of the story extremely well, it's just the faces leave a bit to be desired for me.

Maybe Pete and his drug addict friend from issue #1 go to the desert in a Winnebago, cook meth, and become top drug lords.
Then, after perfecting the formula for the purest meth ever, they are able to earn enough money to build their own "school" to train students to eventually battle Harada and his students!
They would call the storyline "Breaking Eggs"
Could happen!
