Shadowman Black finds...

My local shop in the Pittsburgh area left one in my pullbox as a surprise for me. Just picked it up today with my Harbie and X-O's that came out yesterday. I've been pulling every comic and pullbox variant this summer, so wondering if maybe I'm the biggest customer there of the new stuff.

They are so awesome!! Not going to list their name, because I'm worried they have another Valiant fan that maybe didn't receive but they are singlehandedly the reason why we need to stick with LCS when possile.

lol yeah unless he's just a super fanboy millionaire which i think must be the case. I was thinking about that amount and he HAS to buying like every small press book + every HC and TPB to spend that much. And i'm thinking the spend is slightly exaggerated.

If the LCS decides he deserves it more then me thats fine, I understand, I understand that he gets first crack at it all, thats why I am now going to limit how much I buy in the store, I have never even gotten a chance at a variant that wasnt a 50/50. I have another account at another store and they randomly throw stuff in my account as well as others. Maybe the second store has a customer that spends a fortune that they give first choice too.....but at least that particular store didnt tell me that and they give me the impression that they are willing to share the wealth.
The 3000 number I thought was high and it is probably exaggerated, but I have heard that before years ago and I believe there is a person in this town that buys 1 issue of everything but again 3000 dollars???????????? nah

I'm not sure on this one - I think there is a chance it may dip some and stick around 60-80.

BUT...Because no more will trickle out (if they stick to just these 500) and it came out before the Shadowman release, being as unique as they are, we may see a jump once Shadowman comes out. If Shadowman reads out half as good as it looks, it could be the star of VEI.

I stopped back in at my LCS today to pick up a Harby #1 QR they held for me. Paid $38 bucks for it and it looks like a 9.8 candidate. I haven't removed it from the holder to examine in more closely though...

Anyhoo, then he says he held aside the Shadowman Black for me. It has two small white spots on the sleeve, pretty obvious, with a retail price of $100 -- my discount brings it to $75. I'm still on the fence, that's a lot of money. He said he may also have his hands on another one coming in soon.

Is this thing really limited to 500 copies? Any way of knowing? If the Harby 1:50s are already dropping from the $100 price range to what we now see on Ebay, I'm not sure if I should just hold off a few months and pick it up for less.

I didn't get into my lcs until around 6pm on Wednesday. I knew they were getting the Shadowman Black book as I had asked about it the week before, without asking them to hold it for me [they hadn't settled on a price yet so I wasn't willing to commit to it].

When I got there, the book had already sold earlier in the day right off the display shelf - for $100!

I think it looks pretty awesome [judging from online pics only, I was hoping to see it in person though] and it's a really cool promotional book, but I simply would not have paid that much for it, no matter how limited.

No, and like the swinging sentiment on the board is that the price of variants will come down (as they've already done so). There's just so many of them out now (and the list is growing), the appeal/demand is dropping. Look at Harris and the Vampirella variants, some of those are limited to print runs of 100, and sometimes can be had for 15-25$/piece.

according to the future solicits the hard to get variants are starting to back off. A lot of pullbox type variants coming up, but not near as many 1:20 or 1:50 versions (Shadowman release not-withstanding)

After getting burned paying full price for A&A Neal Adams cover, only to have them given out for free for everyone with a camera, I'm going to hold out juuuuuuust a bit longer.
