THANKS MAN, always nice to hear a compliment !!! The collection has really been a joy to me (even with the grief from my wife) and just like with comic collecting, 'the hunt' for a great cheap bust/statue is in my blood. I recently jumped on a Moon Knight for BIN $20 and THAT is just a thrill when you get a steal like that OR like when I got my Punisher bust for $18 in a behind the scenes purchase. The guy said the .9 mm was chipped, when I got it, I filled it with Elmers glue, painted over it with the same black steel that is was painted in and BOOM, a perfect Punisher bust for $18.

I WAS surprised at how cheap I got my Galactus for as well, some people are needing money and needing it NOW. I am more than happy to help facilitate that.

Now just to go on a few more business trips so that I can afford more busts/statues !!!! That Daredevil statue is really not THAT far away.... patience.

I think collecting statues goes very well with collecting comics. In fact its hard to say which I prefer more. I just wish I had enough room to display all my favorite statues. I really like how youve displayed yours Knightt!

The other problem I have is that my wife really isn't fond of a lot of my statues (Lady Death, Purgitory, Witchblade, Shi, Vampirella, etc. She won't say anything lol but I do see some eye rolls when she thinks I'm not paying attention. They also tend to get rather mixed reactions from various guests. Since my wife tends to care what other people think (Never one of my strong points unless its her.) I think this part of my collection tends to embarass her when she has friends over. She does however really seem to like my Valiant penguin collection.

I've been toying with the idea of putting alot of my things in a basement room. I've actually been storing some things down there, but have not really put things in order. The room is always dry so there won't be any problem with moisture. I figure I can put some of my art on the walls, store some comics, and display some of my statues. I've picked up some filing cabinets & a dislay cabinet at a few local auctions so I think it should look ok. I just hope the place looks half as good as some I've seen posted on this board! I have quite a few statues, but they don't really follow any theme. Besides the few I've picked up on this board, 99% of the ones I have came from a friends shop when she was buying from Diamond. Toys were always what sold at her place so she always sold me statues really cheap when she got them in few of a kind boxes a quick way Diamond had of cleaning their warehouse at Memphis. They look cool but are just odds & ends.

Anyway wish me luck!

_Joe

Man I wish I had your luck. I had 10 statues on my watch list. All full size, I don't care much for the busts or mini. Not a single one went for under $200. There are a lot of statue freaks with more money than sense. Not a single one of them retail for that amount. :? :?

That's how I got my Daredevil Man Without Fear Sculpture statue by Bowen for $30, when they normally sell for $100
There was a very small chip on the back of his left ear, so unless you look at it from behind, it can't be seen.

And since I view my statues from the front, it's fine by me. :thumb:

Good 'steal', man. Small repair job, some paint and there ya go. But looking at it now, I think I will pass. There does not appear to be much detail around the face (paint wise).

This inspired me to do one final posting of my collection before the Fantastic Four were packaged up for their trip to a new home. They ship out next week.

Here we go:

Dr. Strange finally came in and I am STILL waiting on the HH's Daredevil to arrive. At 17" tall this should rule the roost, so I am thinking about moving him into Punishers spot as I want Galactus to be the centerstone of the upper statue level.

And December cannot get here any faster... with Captain America. MAN, am I edgy to get that one. I think I will put him next to Thor or in Blackbolt's spot. Suggestions ?

I tell ya... I am sure you can see the Jim Lee Batman and Superman Hush series mini statues. I am SORELY disappointed in the Superman and Batman is not all that great either. They will probably go with time.

If I didnt have an AWESOME built in desk...

Image

All of this would be impossible, unless you had a very nice curio cabinett to place them in. In this case, dont even THINK about getting into bust/statue collecting unless you have a very snazzy way to display them. I am even thinking about a low watt light system to further enhance the display of them. :hm:

This will be my last piece for a while (comes out in Dec 07):

After this I will have about 3-4 busts (Avengers mostly) that I will need to 'feel complete' as that was my goal, a cool Avengers collection not just a mish-mash of busts. So, I will have Avengers/favorite Marvel characters and villians. But at one point, I will have to stop due to space restraints.

Out of what I have now, I want to get rid of Captain Marvel, USAgent, Doc Oc, Kraven, Wolverine, Apocolypse and maybe the Batman/Superman set.

Agreed. I built shelves that ring my office. They hang about 3 ft. below the ceiling. Kinda like they do for books in the movies.

I also routered a groove and put in a moulding to form a lip for some rope lighting to underlight all the statues on the shelves. The only down side to the lighting is the cords. I was looking for some kind of solar powered system that I could hang in the window that would store power and light at night. Never did find what I was looking for so I went with the plug-in with the cord in conduit to hide it(kinda).

I really wanted some type of mini spotlight for each statue, but that was going to be expensive, difficult to install and a big of a pain to reposition lights as the statues were moved when new statues were added.

Your display looks nice knight....

CAPTAIN AMERICA CLASSIC Statue by RANDY BOWEN.

Expect to pay at least $170 or more for this beaut... keep in mind that this statue does not come out until DEC 07, you will have to pre-order as I did mine.

Not a bad deal on Ebay now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-CLA ... dZViewItem

Or order right from Bowen:

http://www.bowendesigns.com/sculptures.asp?id=363&type=

You might save money on Ebay though, especially if you offer a little less than what this guy is asking for. :thumb:

I am at Fort Hood, TX right now and leaving for home tomorrow which is GREAT timing.. my wife called me to let me know that my Captain America full size statue arrived. I will post a pic of that in my entire collection as well as the the three Universe X statues that I picked up REALLY cheap.

More to follow... I was so excited about the Cap statue showing up that I forgot to pick up the Dr. Strange mini bust that I saw for $30 !!!

If you're ever in Amarillo, our LCS has a meager bust collection.

Way the hell on the other side of the state from Fort Hood. Cannon AFB is the closest, I think. Maybe Reese in Lubbock.

Wha... no love for the new Cap and Earth X busts ?

I think that the Cap full size is the best ever and completes my full size collection. I could go for replacing Black Bolt at some time perhaps... I know I would LOVE to have a nice Batman full size or a Batman bust.

I am looking to get rid of the Batman and Superman mini statues if anyone is interested

$55 for both plus s/h ?

I still cannot believe this... no comment about the Captain America statue ? This bad boy came with TWO bases as well, one as you see there and the other with the Seal of the U.S.A. but the one I used elevated the statue higher to become somewhat on par with Thor.

Been thinking about the Odin statue as it is just WAY beautiful in in great detail but I am not much of a Thor fan and the Cap is just THE statue in my collection for me... finally a truly great Cap statue. IMO
