I don't think that 1k price tag is gonna happen, there was no price increase at all, even after the release of the new series. Like I said before, I think the demand of collectors who want this book enough to really pay that high price tag is limited. And throw in a new series, that will divide collecting dollars further, it seems even less likely...StarBrand wrote:Here's one. Opening bid 480.00.

I have no idea if it will ever hit $1k again, but it's way too early to make any calls. Give it a year and then we'll have a good idea.

Who is Valman? I've been running across him on Ebay buying up high-grade Valiants for a long while now, and quite the impressive list he has amassed.FormerReader wrote:GGSAE wrote:I don't think that 1k price tag is gonna happen, there was no price increase at all, even after the release of the new series. Yup, and I wonder where the QR Variant will be in a year. It would be interesting to plot the price trends of both; I think it has viability to overcome Harbinger 1.FormerReader wrote:GGSAE wrote:I don't think that 1k price tag is gonna happen, there was no price increase at all, even after the release of the new series. I would be shocked to see that happen. One is the most iconic Valiant issue the other is just a cool gimic cover.
It is going to be fun to see where things are next year.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Sure, but how many 9.8s and 9.6s do you think will be out there on the QR? There's probably less than 600 of these floating around! I stand by my assertion that the 48,000 supply will keep harbinger 1 attainable for people that just want a copy (or a decent NM 9.4 could be had for a more reasonable price).FormerReader wrote:GGSAE wrote:Yup, and I wonder where the QR Variant will be in a year. In comparison, Birth of Defiant Universe sells right around $200 for a 9.8 (granted there are not a lot of recorded sales), but that's a dead universe, that very, very few people care about. And it had a print run of 1000. And the books were meticulously cared for with most ungraded copies being in NM.

We're in "stall" mode on these. Every month VEI publishes and gains market share a little more of the fuse burns away....

I think topnotch was the guy who tried to maintain the price floor at 1k during the first downtrend, then ended up selling many for a loss....iggy101us wrote:Listed yesterday and added to 1st post:

You think there's gonna be an explosion of prices on VH1? There's 400+ copies of this book in 9.4-9.8, do you really think the demand for graded copies will overcome the supply, especially if prices increase flushing more copies to market?ckb wrote:We're in "stall" mode on these. IMHO the rate of copies flushing into the market will pale compared to increasing demand for this book over time.GGSAE wrote:You think there's gonna be an explosion of prices on VH1? I don't see the price moving much this year, but even with the amount of graded copies out there I still see this issue as being the "key" issue to get. If Valiant finds it's place in the market, there are enough people who will want this book in high grade. I think in one year this will be a different discussion.

I agree. This book has maintained a value around $450 to $500 with a very small market. I expect this market to grow. How much is the key question.

It has been one of the odd ducks for Valiant books worth a large amount for a long while. But to expect the prices to go up because of increased attention towards the new Valiant Universe makes for an is an interesting assumption. I wouldn't bet against it.FormerReader wrote:How much is the key question.

At least you own one. The census is still low enough even a 9.8 Q makes for a nice book to own.dhudson1 wrote:I have a 9.8.FormerReader wrote:bosco685 wrote:Only one copy? Awwwwwwwwww. Poor little collector.FormerReader wrote:I hope it goes up, but if it doesn't I'm still glad i have a copy.
